#999 – Strapped

When I visited my grandparent’s house as a kid I was fascinated by a little figurine on a table in their living room. It was of a small boy walking to school and carrying a stack of books. The books were strapped together with a strip of leather like a belt. I looked at that little boy every time we were there. “Some day you will go to school just like this little boy.” I was so disappointed when I was finally old enough and I had to wear a boring blue backpack. I tried using one of my belts but it wasn’t long enough and everything fell apart.

Today is Biff’s birthday! Last chance to get some Biff Books at the Biff’s Birthday Book Sale!

And then a semi-truck with a shipment of magnets drives by.

  2. DM8954 says:

The equipment on Biff’s back doesn’t look as heavy OR as cumbersome as a backpack, does it?

Oh Biff, I’m gonna miss you after the website implodes tomorrow.

  3. Lich king says:

Oh please, it won’t implode. Us Bifforumers would know if that was going to happen.

  4. Calvin says:

The picture is named “2010-04-09-0999.png”. I get the feeling “2010-04-10-1000.png” will work fine.

  5. fluffy says:

Wow, almost 1000 strips! That’s a great milestone.

This is the first time I’m this excited for the next panel in a webcomic (any comic actually). And I read a lot of webcomics!

Actually, I managed to do the strap thing for a few weeks during my last year of elementary school but I found that it was just easier to carry the darned things. (Backpacks didn’t become de rigueur for kids until well after I left High School.)

ooooh… I want one of those, not sure was I’d use it for, but I’d find something.

    Happy Birthday Dear Bi-iff!
    Happy Birthday to you!

    Got your fire extinguisher handy?

Happy Birthday Biff. Heres to another 999 years!

That hover device looks heaver then the books.

Too bad the 1000th update wasn’t today. That’d be AMAZING.

  12. Libramen says:

If of any consolation, next week could be devoted to Biff doing some of the old antics in newest way possible, just as a commemoration to just how far Biff have gone 😀

    Happy one-more-comic-til-1000th comic

Or he could do a Saturday special <.< I am keeping my comp on.

Happy fourth! Four more years! Four more years! Haha.

Every time I walk to/from school (even in university), I imagine myself either levitating my backpack or levitating myself. But then I’d realize if we COULD levitate things, it’d probably be just as tiring. Maybe a different kind of tired, like jogging is a different kind of tired than lifting weights, which is different from an all-nighter, which is different from entertaining a bunch of professors with intellectual conversations…. but still tired nonetheless ><

  15. Ame says:

The banned backpacks at my school. Teachers got paranoid after some incidents with shootings in other states. Weird, because its usually quiet over here.

  16. Space Butler says:

It may seem like a profitless tradeoff, carrying a heavy generator, but electromagnetic telekinesis is WAAAY worth it.

  17. -2! says:

    @ Ame

    They banned backpacks?

    What the…

  18. SilentDragon says:

Hmmm, aside from the weight issue, what about weather? his hands are now quite full, so unless they built it to also shield both his books and himself from rain, then he has an awkward situation involving 2 umbrellas or the future equivalent.
The current size maybe just mean that it’s in its beta stage, in defense, guess I counter my first paragraph that way too…

  19. Ame says:

    @ -2

Yeah. The people on the school board are annoying like that.

  20. Calvin says:

    @ Ame
Don’t I know it. I was “Special Needs” for a time, and they kept me at a school “For my safety.” It’s pure Karma and Luck that I still exist.

  21. Gojira says:

WHOA! ALMOST 1000. EPIC! Happy day! Keep it up!

  22. Stan says:

What is this, like the fifth in the future… strip in a row? Maybe building into something big for the great 1000… 😀

  23. ZeoViolet says:

I remember those backpacks full of heavy stuff nearly telescoping my spine…..

I recall a picture in a relative’s house almost identical to what you describe, but it was a little girl with those books bound by a leather strap.

  24. Croc says:

Yeah, if I had something like that, I would abuse it for EVERYTHING. Hovering books aside, I would reach a whole new level of laziness…

  25. steve-o says:

    Yay! Happy birthday, Biff

  26. Crimson_regret says:

I don’t care how heavy that equipment is, bullies are alot less powerful if I have that thing!

    HAPPY BIFFDAY!

  27. Polymorph says:

@Crimson: That also means that bullies are a lot more powerful if they have that thing.

  28. -2! says:

Thought I would try and see if you posted yet, before I went off to bed, cause that way I would have been an early comment on 1000. But I need to be schooling tomorrow…

  29. Colaskunky says:

*laughs* I thought I was the only one that tried the Belted-Books thing. It would have had it with the cross belting if the belt had been longer. And..my dad hadn’t needed it.
