#1717 – Wick

We always made mashed potatoes at home from scratch. Boil some potatoes, mash them up, add some butter and milk. When I grew up and got jobs in the restaurant world I was shocked to learn that they almost always make them from a powder. Shocked because I had been eating restaurant mashed potatoes all those years and never suspected.

  1. I have never been a big fan of mashed potatoes, but the mashed “potatoes” made from powder are just… Gaahhhh… I’m pretty sure that the powder mash my dad used to buy is the main reason that I don’t like mashed potatoes, no matter if they’re real or made of powder.

Also, I think that this could probably be how Jamie and Adam (Mythbusters) make mashed potatoes (like in the comic, not buying powder mash like my dad did before).

You mean mashed potatoes don’t come from seeds?

If you get a job in a kitchen and you dont get to peel potatoes, no matter how obnoxious it is to do, then likely you shouldnt be eating there. At Le Garage, they go through like several buckets a week. And the potatoes are DELICIOUS. Mmmmm Swedish cooking :3

Four minutes in the microwave for a small (under-half-pound/250g) potato, and if you don’t poke holes in the thing or cut it up, it will become ‘instant’ mashed potatoes (all over the inside of the Marconi), perhaps with broken dishes in the violent expansion of steam.

If you’ve ever received a package packed with those ‘biodegradable’ foam peanuts, that’s what they are (but really need salt!)

Either processed ‘taters, or some kind of cornstartch compound like rejected Cheeto batter.

  5. Boil ’em, mash ’em, stick ’em in a stew.
