#801 – Parmesan

This comic reminds me of a few years back when I was visiting a friend. We were standing in her living room having a conversation. She walked off into a different room to get something to show me and just as she went around the corner I went into the kitchen. I then heard her walking back into the room talking to me when she suddenly let out a loud yelp. I rushed into the room and asked her what happened. “I was startled that you weren’t still standing there!” I think that’s the only time I have scared someone with my sudden absence.

  1. Tetris says:

Oh god, poor Biff. I’m glad he didn’t just dive in to it.

I don’t think I’ve ever scared anyone by not being there, but I have certainly scared someone with my sudden presence several times ;).

  2. Micah says:

    Creepy Crawlies week.

  3. Heinrich says:

i think it might be something along the lines of ‘stuff he forgot he did’ week.

n i also haven’t scared anyone with my absence that i can remember, but i have scared people by sneaking up behind them without meaning to. apparently i’m really good at moving silently and do it without meaning to.

i really like this comic though. (:

Strange protection against sudden unexpected threats week

  5. gelugon2105 says:

I do not understand this particular strip. May anyone please explain the gist here?

  6. Not Me says:

gelugon2105: Biff made spaghetti. Without meatballs. There is what looks like a meatball on his spaghetti. He’s scared because he has no idea where it came from or what it actually is.

  7. Amanda says:

I expect that at any moment it will sprout little legs and run.

  8. MaskedMan says:

    ‘Willies’ week!

And – This is what happens when you don’t track down that meatball that rolled under a cabinet; sometimes, it comes back…

  9. It’s not a creepy crawly! It’s a tribble!

  10. Mophtran says:

See, Chris, I’m the exact opposite. I must have the soul of a ninja, as I can be standing in a room doing nothing at work, someone will walk in, and then they’ll notice me and get scared. I mean, not that I haven’t purposefully tried to scare some of my co-workers, but it just confuses me how I can be standing somewhere and people just get scared by my presence.

  11. Mophtran says:

@Tetris: Didn’t notice your comment yet… Dod you do it on purpose or does it just happen? lol

  12. Nicoli20 says:

I can sneak up behind people pretty easily. I hit in the face because of that, since one of my victims twirled around with flailing arms. 0o

  13. Maskdt says:

I can still scare my sister even AFTER I’ve told her exactly where I was and that I would be waiting for her there.

  14. Radical Edward says:

I scare my mother easily. Mainly because she doesn’t hear me coming.

  15. Boo says:

@Mophtran: You’re not alone, I regularly frighten people without any actual effort. Apparently I have some manner of natural stealth or camouflage which allows me to sneak up on people whilst strolling casually or else not moving at all.

  16. Nilly says:

I’ve terrified people by not being there. One time I had to get up in the middle of the night for something to drink, and Mom heard me walking around and got up to check on me because I was sick at the time. She went into my room and apparently freaked out when I walked in behind her. XD Poor lady.

  17. Eleanor says:

@ quite a few of you: I am the opposite. I can walk very, very quietly and do so deliberately to get the jump on my friends. They never really get used to sudden ninja-hugs from behind.

  18. i.half4 says:

Eureka!!! The theme is a minor 49er: (no wait, I’m confusing it with My Darlin’ Clementine. Oh well, no matter. It’s music all the same)

On top of spaghetti… All covered with ARRRRRRGHHHH!

  19. i.half4 says:

…I lost my poor spider, when somebody sneezed. It ran off the table, then dropped to the floor. And now my poor spider is with me no more.

  20. i.half4 says:

Well not quite yet, though. Still another many days of Biff till we get to the 900 series, no?

  21. dartigen says:

I’m good at not being noticed, so much so that I sometimes get marked absent at school. I guess it comes with being barely on 5′ tall and very quiet.
It’s fun to randomly poke people or hug them from behind though. The moment of shock is often funny to see.

  22. gelugon2105 says:

Not Me, thanks for the clarification. So it’s a case of Biff being spooked then?

  23. Oh hg-
This comic reminded me -_- and this will probably gross more then a few of you the frig out.
Ok, so I’m making mac and cheese for the first time in… A long time (my sister steals them when we get them, so I nabbed them and hid the damn things before she could grab them. She got mad, was confronted with the evidence, didnt have a leg to stand on. A pockey celebration was had in my honor, but that was later.)
I get irritated because I KNOW we have a strainer somewhere, and I want to use it since I’m tired of using a spoon to strain the macaroni.
THe strainer is hauled out of the cabinet.
    The macaroni is poured in.
    Straining begins.
I look down as I’m shifting the macaroni about and dead roaches are mixed in with the macaroni…
yyyyeah. I didn’t eat that week.

  24. Fira Arnithe says:

Everyone is always surprised at how ninja-like I am. (Given that I’m 5′ 7″ and fat, not to mention …..boisterous *grin*, that’s not too surprising, tho.) I’ve lived most of my life in the boondocks, so I’ve gotten VERY good at moving silently. Due to mass request, I no longer ninj-hug, but I still poke and scream “Boo!” at people, and it never fails to startle them.

  25. Miles says:

I tend to scare people often by ‘suddenly appearing’. Which is amusing, as I wear big heavy and LOUD boots, and usually have change and keys in my pockets, and am not trying to be quiet.
