#995 – Circulated

I haven’t been eating cereal for awhile now so I’m not sure what the current free toy situation is. I guess they don’t really stop this kind of stuff when you’ve grow up. I’ve seen lots of “Buy this car and get a free iPod!” or “Buy this house and get a free TV!” deals advertised. I wonder if the adults that go for those offers are the same ones that chose cereal based on the toy.

    Super Noodle Bran! Part of a “hearty” breakfast.

    My mother once bought a car that included a free TV.

    It was an Emerson TV and we had bought an Emerson VCR later.
    TV quit due to prick dumping liquid into it. VCR lasted for several years and the last tape that was playing in it was a Barney tape. After that, it quit and never worked again. Took it to a place down the street and was told they don’t service that brand. My mother & brother took the VCR to the other repair on the other side of town, where the VCR gotten destroyed to get the tape out.

    I had opened it after it quit working and found what it looked like Coca-Cola stains. But no word,on how it got there. We got a new Sharp VCR to replace it.

    TV lasted for a few years or so, I don’t remember.

    You might want to be careful, there’s people out there that want to reposes those.

    From the movie: Breakfast at Tiffany’s:

    “Do they still really have prizes in Cracker Jack boxes? That’s nice to know, it gives one a feeling of solidarity, almost of continuity with the past, that sort of thing…”

  9. Wizard says:

    Seems like the prizes in cereal used to be much cooler. Or maybe I’m just succumbing to a rare attack of nostalgia.

    Only tangentially on-topic, but in the 1970s, coffee prices were experiencing a weird fluctuation and the stuff got pretty expensive for awhile. You can find ads from that time which promise 10 pounds of coffee free with the purchase of a car.

    Cloning isn’t new, we can clone whatever we want, there is a place where you can clone pets, they cloned sheep a long time ago but people said it was immoral

  12. Eddy G says:

    @Megamaxmax Yeah alot of stuff has been cloned, dogs, pigs, sheep, fish, and even certain tissues and bacteria. Some countries even claim to have cloned humans, but the usa is not on such good terms with these countries and refutes the claims without even looking at the evidence (the countries i know of that have claimed are China and Brazil, yes, Brazil.)

  13. Dustin Wilson says:

    eeeew not even the cheap protective plastic barrier that still somehow managed to let cereal crumbs in? Biff’s gonna want to wash that off before he uses it.

  14. MaskedMan says:

    @Eddy G;
    It’s not a question of looking at the evidence – It’s looking at the thundering LACK of evidence. Extraordinary claim requires extraordinary proof – And in one case, the claimant was a known quack; in the other, the scientists involved were basically fired for falsifying clinical evidence on their studies.

    Doesn’t mean they didn’t do the job – Just that there’s absolutely no reason to believe them. Until they pony up the evidence, that is. To date, no evidence… *shrug*

  15. Vrominelli says:

    Mmm that’s good Soilent Green.

  16. joural says:

    finally! the triumphant return of super noodle bran!

    hmm… first a spaceship, now a heart… I think the prize quality may have gone down… or up, depending on your perspective.

    I bet you’re wondering about the cereal now and then, asking yourself, “Did I actually eat that stuff?” These were weird brands & flavors that were out there over the years. Recent one, I heard of is, Chocolate Cheerios. Who would eat chocolate for breakfast?

  18. DtLe says:

    @The Dukenator

    Who WOULDN’T eat chocolate for breakfast?

  19. Mophtran says:

    @Dukenator:

    Yeah! I have no idea who would want chocolate for breakfast! *hides Cocoa Krispies, Cocoa Pebbles, and Cocoa Puffs in back of pantry*

  20. The Dukenator says:

    The odd part is when I was growing up, we never had chocolate cereal in the house as no one would buy it. We couldn’t convince our mother to buy it for us, and we gave up.

    I bought a box of Chocolate Cheerios, after it came out, as a joke. Gave it to my mother, who never opened the box. Last time I checked, it hasn’t been opened yet.
