#777 – Drake

I read a lot of X-Men comics as a kid but they never addressed the real important questions we all had. Does Iceman enjoy things like ice cream and popsicles? Did people stick take-out menus to Colossus with novelty refrigerator magnets? And really… what was the deal with Wolverine’s hair?

  1. I… always wondered the same, actually, Chris. What in the 10 Blue Hells /IS/ up with Wolverine’s hair?!
That being said, Colossus was always my favorite. I’m a sucker for the Strongman-type mutants.

  2. Mophtran says:

Hahaha, my boyfriend gets wolverine bed-head sometimes. I can’t help but laugh my ass off when I roll over and see that.

  3. Delarius says:

Ain’t that what your doing when your scubba diving? :p

  4. TCC says:

lol, can’t remember who said it, but someone the other day pretty much TOTALLY called this one… still waiting on beast though. That one should be interesting seeing how in the early comics beast wasn’t furry wich takes out quite a few of the jokes you could make about him… (then theres marvel girl, which should be easy seeing as biff has shown telekenitik prowwess in past comics…)

“Did people stick take-out menus to Colossus with novelty refrigerator magnets?”

    LOL!!!XD

  6. LazerWulf says:

Ooh… so close. Not brain freeze, but I’m two for two on the names. (Not counting Monday’s “start-of-the-theme-week” name.)

  7. Lisa says:

    now thats cold blooded

  8. Space Butler says:

what I would give to not be hot all summer… it gets hot here.

  9. Drew says:

Ah, Captain Planet Week. Looking forward to Heart.

  10. Morzikei says:

I remember when a temporary teacher brought liquid nitrogen to our physics class… Pretty cool seeing a liquid evaporate immediately upon contact with one’s hands

  11. Vidja says:

What I would give to have liquid nitrogen as blood.
I love the cold. Interestingly, I also love fish and have a fear of flying.

  12. Mystik Tomato says:

I feel sorry for Wolverine. He either has terrible hair or terrible costumes. (Canary yellow and blue? Egad.)

  13. Micah says:

Chris’s story gives away the theme of the week.

  14. soilent says:

Wolverine’s Hair is depicting -surprise!- a wolverine’s head!

  15. ZeoViolet says:

I always thought that if someone married Multiple Man, would it count as bigamy?

And I always thought that the person with the saddest power of all was Rogue. Downright unfair to go through life being unable to touch someone lest you suck the life out of them and no control over it.

  16. Impikmin says:

Biff looks very chiseled and posed in this one. I guess if I was stuck in a frozen position for a while, I’d choose this ‘Mighty Drinker’ one.

  17. Impikmin says:

Oh! And 777! Biff just hit the jackpot!!!

  18. i.half4 says:

I suspect the theme Chris is going for is beyond me. I only know X-Men from the movies. But then reality in Biffworld is mostly a matter of perspective. I still see movies. X-Men, Dogma, Dark Star. (the *real* Pinback jumped into a vat of liquid helium without a starsuit on)

But there’s still something about this picture that doesn’t work. If that were *really* liquid nitrogen, it would be evaporating all over Biff long before the glass tipped that far. I mean, Biff’s world does allow for some pretty irregular physics, but the joke usually revolves around this irregularity in the context of an otherwise perfectly normal world. I don’t get what’s funny about the glass.

Worst – Biff – ever. (There. Comic Book Guy is funny.)

  19. Chris says:

@i.half4 – Who said he was drinking it? It’s in his blood stream.

  20. i.half4 says:

(…and another thing) Oh, right. I just got that. The glass is water. It’s like a midas touch thing. Good one. Reminds me of The Incredibles. It took me weeks to figure out that… (Spoiler Warning NE1?) “Frozone” wasn’t just about spreading the cool. It was also a hair thing.

You must have gotten that too, given the observation by soilent above.

  21. I wonder if this week has anything to do with the fact that the first half of the original cartoon series just got released on DVD recently…

Yeah, just finished watching it, so this week is perfect.

  22. Grug says:

It’s definitely Original X-men week. The original X-men were Cyclops, Angel, Ice Man, Beast, and Jean Grey. two dollars says Beast is next.

Fun fact: after the Original X-men got captured by a sentient island, Professor Xavier went out and recruited Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Banshee, and Nightcrawler (actually not too sure about that last one).

  23. Chris2fer says:

Please be Grey next please be Grey next please be Grey next…

  24. Karen says:

Wolverine’s hair was like that because he’s Canadian, eh?

The most recent movie lies about his origins, but we all know it’s true.

  25. Matt Lee says:

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to save some money!

Hey, if I was to make a Rhino model of Biff how would I get a picture to Chris?

  26. Chris says:

@Karen – He’s still Canadian in the new movie

@Matt Lee – Click “contact” at the top of the page

  27. Matt Lee says:

Remember back in the day when there wasn’t a theme for each week and we didn’t try to guess anything. Just kick back and laugh and go “That was fun” then continue the rest of our lives?

  28. Karen says:

I was disappointed with the way the new movie fudges the story. Yeah, by the end he identifies as Canadian, but he spends most of the time in the U.S. military (filthy lies).

Also, the CG was just terrible.

  29. Radical Edward says:

I never read X-Men…Mainly because that wasn’t my thing.

As for liquid nitrogen, Biff should shatter into a million pieces.

  30. Kit-Kun says:

    In order:
1: Yes. Iceman does like a frozen treate.
2: Maybe. I would, then hid away and laugh like a school girl.
3: I’ve been wondering the same thing for a while. I think it’s extra strength hair gel.

  31. Biligum says:

So… It’s cheaper to replace your blood with liquid nitrogen than to turn the thermostat up ten degrees?

  32. -2! says:

    @ Biligum

It’s Biff, he is saving money on energy but spending more on Liquid nitrogen

  33. The Pirate Lord says:

Either his veins would be popping out in a crazy way or they would have burst….
    Just something to think about.

  34. werp says:

I always wondered why Magneto didn’t just embarrass Wolverine too much to work against him…I mean, if you’re the malevolent master of magnetisim, facing a dude with a metal skeleton, why not make him dance the Robot until all the X-men are paralysed with laughter and make your getaway?

  35. Dzelda says:

Wow, Biff just achieved a new level of ultimate stupidity. XD

  36. ZackDark says:

don’t you all loved how Chris talked about the ‘secret’ theme just because I commented his evasivness yesterday?
    😛

  37. -2! says:

    @ZackDark

And yet look @Drew’s comment. Captain Planet week.

I wonder if he is joking around.

  38. Oh god. Don’t remind me about Captain Planet.
I was at A-Kon last weekend, and I got kicked out of watching Gravion… I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. The Spirit of MST3K infected me. As soon as they started listing off all the different vehicles…
“By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!”
    “SHH!”

  39. Wizard says:

Grug – yeah, Nightcrawler was part of the second team. You forgot Thunderbird and Sunfire, but then neither of them hung around very long.

  40. linuxxorcist says:

so, assuming his head dosen’t explode from a thousand simultaneous aneurisms, the liquid N dosen’t boil away, causing the bends, and the internal freezer burn dosen’t destroy his internal organs, there’s still liquid N’s low heat capacity, he’ll stay cold for about an hour, tops, if metal poisoning could be avoided, i’d prefer replacing my hair with copper wool, for that heat-sinking feeling.

  41. VampirePumpkins says:

Why thank you, people who point out Biff’s flawed thinking and how his plan defies the laws of physics. Because we really all thought that replacing ones blood with liquid nitrogen was a real good idea until you came along and we all go to Biff for scientificaly accurate comics.

  42. BannonRace says:

Once I found out Colossus was gay, it actually explained a lot. Have you noticed that at one point Wolverine and Beast were rocking the same hair “style?”

  43. Spike says:

    it’s Ice Man!

  44. Bearfoot says:

Fun fact, and probably the reason for the hair.

Woulverine was orginally supposed to be a mutated woulverine not a human.

  45. YukiSnowflake says:

i have to just say i dont know ANYTHING baout xmen, except maybe its nem-x backwards.
other than that, i shall ignore the theme and just laugh at the comic instead.

  46. SurveySays says:

Gambit is always going to be my fav. my mother and i would have debates over Gambit v.x Rogue but i refuse to be swayed. we have similar debates about Superman v.s Batman. she tries to prove that batman isn’t really a super hero. BLASPHAMY
