#484 – Stealth

I work in a cubicle-farm style office. It’s interesting to see what happens when someone leaves the company and vacates their cubicle. First there is sort of a mourning period where people will walk by and look into the empty space… pause for a moments contemplation and then move on. After 2 or 3 days go by something magical happens. One person will enter the cubicle and start going through the office supplies that were left behind. Once that first person breaks the seal, a feeding frenzy begins. Folders and pens and coat hooks and chairs are all up for grabs. If you miss out on the initial rush then you are usually out of luck unless you had been searching for a half empty box of staples.

I wonder what Biff’s new job IS.

It involves reading, a computer, and a very impractical chair…

THAT chair, invisible? Fuggedaboutit. You’re NEVER going to be ergonomic again!

  3. Chivalrybean says:

Great way to save on coin if he has to otherwise park in a pay for parking zone.

  4. SEA says:

How can it be green AND invisible *head hurts*

    Part 2/2? –> http://www.thebookofbiff.com/2007/02/01/181-chair/

  5. stonehydra says:

That is obviously an aqua colored invisible chare not a green one.

  6. Schulzy says:

Wow, for a combo of two different comics, this one makes sooo much sense.

  7. ¡el pingüino bilingüe¿ says:

At least i would be easy to tell if someone put a pin or whoopie cushion.

  8. ¡el pingüino bilingüe¿ says:

Actully Stonehydra I think its more of a turquoise hue

  9. pieman says:

i misread chivalrybean’s post, and it just gave me an idea. put a coin or something small on the chair (not thumbtacks) so he can see where it is.

but knowing biff, they wouldn’t allow it at his job.

  10. pieman says:

last post was sent before seeing ¡el pingüino bilingüe¿’s post

  11. Adam_Y says:

I’m an early scavenger myself, harvesting items before the cubicle goes ‘cold’.

It’s one of the benefits of being the ‘office ghost’ (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=office+ghost&defid=2421982)

  12. stonehydra says:

if you cant see the chare look at it with the corner of your eye i swear it shows up and is some shade of bluish green.

  13. Hob says:

    …Gah! It’s spelled C H A I R!! It’s even spelled like that in the comic? How can you keep spelling it C H A R E?

  14. Rose says:

stonehydra … i don’t know if that’s the power of suggestion talking cause I think I saw it too. o.O power of suggestion is huge though. uhm. >.> -goes to work now. doesn’t have a cool invisible green chair though.-

  15. Sir Kha says:

SEA, I think the better question is: how can it *not* be green and invisible… Maybe I find that funny cause i am so tired… whatever

  16. APic says:

Ok, I get the invisible, but the green? How is it green? Is it green as in evironmentally friendly? Or is it coloured green?

For that matter, was his invisible car a hybrid?

  17. Dave2222 says:

Why are you all saying that the chair is reaal Blue-greenish? The chair is purple for crying out loud.

I’m happy with this comic. It’s the first one where I guessed the comics that inspired it. Yay, ingenuity!

  18. Jackson says:

I’m pretty sure the chair is green, guys.

Second-hardest part of Biff’s new job: keeping track of his invisible red chair?

  19. Plankster says:

Wouldn’t Biff know what color his own chair was? Unless of course all the people that are arguing about the color are saying that their eyesight is better than Biff’s, which I highly doubt, especially considering the fact that at least one of you misspelled the word “chair!”

  20. MaskedMan says:

Look, folks… Haven’t *any* of you heard of “Green Screen” technology, what the movies and TV have used to replace the older, less hip “Blue Screen”..?

It’s the technology that allows you to make backgrounds invisible to the camera. So… In BiffWorld, people’s eyes work on a similar principle to video cameras. Or at least Biff’s eyes do. Or maybe it’s just us, and we’re spying on Biff via camera, a’la The Truman Show.

  21. Gobbledegook says:

My job doesn’t have cubicles, but we tend to replace people pretty quickly when someone leaves. It’s not uncommon for someone to get moved into a desk a day or two after their predecessor has left, so our feeding frenzies usually start immediately after (and sometimes before) someone leaves. The sly workers “borrow” stuff from the soon-to-be-ex employee and simply don’t return it.

@MaskedMan: You have just blown my mind. 🙂

  22. KayRis says:

Hehe, at least it’ll go well with his car…

  23. Seraphine says:

If you don’t get in on the first
    day’s cubicle raiding, the
    stapler is already gone.

  24. speearr says:

Yay! Today’s combination is my favourite….

  25. carrie says:

hehehee… this is my favorite of the week.

  26. ¡el pingüino bilingüe¿ says:

    Very funny (I refuse to say LOL, 33k! I can’t stop ) Adam_Y

Stonehydra, are you sure it is not just Biff’s jeans his shoes and/or the green background of the site your seeing?

It’s a dark day, no Flame Pummeling Hammers

  27. insertnamehere says:

you guys, he’s not even sitting on it. his muscles are so used to sitting, they’ve lock in that position for when he’s standing, and he’s reading “how to find your invisible green chair for dummies”. Because, as we can all clearly see, someone stole his chair, because they thought he was leaving. it all makes sense!

  28. Garrett says:

I gotta get myself an invisible green chair, along with an invisible green screen and video equipment to make those invisible. Would be very fun to play with.

  29. pieman says:

it would solve the colour confusion if it was octarine.

if it was a colour, that would be the most likely one.

  30. Nick says:

If it’s invisible, how can you tell it’s green?

    >_>
    <_<

  31. I remember the days when my father worked in a cubicle. I always loved watching everyone else prairie dogging…

  32. Chezetoats says:

Wow, hey! It is ‘S’ week as well as combination week! Look, all the names this week have started with the letter S!

You know how awesome it would be to have an invisible chair? You could become some amazing illusionist!

  33. Dare says:

S week? I thought it was still continuation week- remember the Invisible Green car?

  34. Diana M. says:

Maybe the invisible green chair is made by the same company as the invisible green car?

  35. Bobs says:

Hmm, in computer graphics, you really can have a green invisible texture/image, you see, theres these 4 values that tell a renderer what it is, 1 for red, 1 for blue, 1for green, and 1 for alpha. alpha is its clearness factor, 255 being invisible, 0 being solid, thus, biff’s chair is 0, 255, 0 , 255

  36. Kgummy says:

The chair obviously gets something like 100 miles per gallon

  37. pieman says:

has biff put on weight since the last comic?

  38. trevor says:

    Half empty? Why the pessimism?

  39. Random person who is not a double posting trevor says:

    http://www.thebookofbiff.com/2007/06/01/259-cup/
I randomly picked that comic out, I predict it will be used.

  40. insertnamehere says:

*sigh* no no no. If we get to pick out one for a continuation, it has to be http://www.thebookofbiff.com/2008/02/20/447-velocity/
I mean come on, we all want to see how that works out =D

  41. Random person who is not a double posting trevor says:

No, wait…the one that has to be used is…*whispers something about cereal getting soggy*.

  42. pieman says:

why not stop guessing and wait for the surprize?

    the duck hasn’t spoken recently…

  43. Kitsunie says:

Did he take it out of his invisible green car?

  44. AOEUD says:

I think the point the colour people are complaining about is that an invisible chair neither reflects nor absorbs any wavelength of light, and therefeore can not have any colour – it doesn’t make sense.

  45. Zach Light says:

I wish invisible stuff would leave a shadow, or a small phase thing for people to see.

  46. Pix says:

green invisible car, chair, and what now…
