#432 – Grab

For some reason I have a hard time making brownies. It always gets a crust around the edges and stays soggy in the center. I still eat them… but usually with a spoon.

  1. perhaps raising the temperature at regular intervals would help…?

I don’t know I don’t bake, in either sense of the word.

I’m reminded of a Garfield comic on this one: Garfield was attacked by his over-strong coffee.

  3. Heinrich says:

dude… i wanna know how to make those brownies… (:

  4. trueblaze says:

um…remind me never to eat at Biff’s house….on second thought I think I’ll just avoid his place all together.

  5. pieman says:

    WOO! mutant brownies!

  6. Joseph says:

Heh… as it turns out, the brownies are the lie, not the cake.

  7. matatas says:

It should’ve been “Allow the brownies to cool off for at least an hour”

  8. Andrew Leche says:

Cook the brownies slower at a lower temperature to have it cook more evenly.

  9. RFPT says:

good thing the brownie thing can’t identify his mouth either, or I bet he’d have brownies bursting out of his stomach in a few hours.

  10. speearr says:

There should be a police-line-do-not-cross cordon up around those things!

  11. connman says:

High enough temperatures usually kill most things, organic or otherwise

  12. Gobbledegook says:

I guess he misunderstood the box when it said self-preserving ingredients.

    Joseph: LOL

  13. Seraphine says:

I can never wait. The smell
as they come oout of the oven
    overwhelms me with its kindness.

  14. the Scarf says:

I can BURN Mac n’ Cheese….so I’m really not too great at making anything other than apple pie…

  15. Ben says:

    gooey brownies are the BEST

  16. First thought when I saw this: Facehugger brownies!

  17. kenshin620 says:

Biff has had a huge craving for sweets recently, hasn’t he? So is the next one something with cookies?

  18. MaskedMan says:

My wife makes killer brownies. They’ll do a lot worse than grab you, if you approach before they’ve cooled off…

How much of Biff’s larder is so hostile that it needs to cool down before it can be approached, anyway?

  19. Kitty says:

HAHA! That’s exactly what its like!! I mean, you’re starving, but you really want those fresh brownies, so you’re hoovering over the pan until finally your stomach convinces your mind that it MUST be cool, so you quickly shovel a fat spoonful in and it sticks to the roof of your mouth and you’re just left there squealing in happy chocolate and burny pain. . .
Oh yes. That’s EXACTLY what its like.

  20. Eternal Darkness says:

Wow… someone teach me how to make those. I want one as a pet!

  21. Daniel says:

It sounds like your oven is to hot. The metal in the brownie pan is a better conductor of heat than the air, so its overcooking the edges while the inside remains undercooked.
If a lower heat doesn’t help, you might try making the brownies in a muffin or cupcake pan. The smaller size will help them cook more evenly (plus no cutting).

  22. Dirktooth says:

Wow, that looks like something that would happen if I tried to cook. I can’t even use the microwave, let alone a full-fledged oven… I somehow managed to set my re-heated cheese steak on fire. Luckily, the sink was closer than my pair of hammers, and the kitchen was clear of all wildlife. 🙂

  23. MOD says:

“may we remind you that you will be baked, and then there will be cake”

  24. PsychoDuck says:

And dessert week trudges on proudly. What crazy, sugar-laden adventures will Biff embark on next? Tune in tomorrow to find out.

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  25. Protagoris says:

You need to rotate the pan once or twice during the cooking process. And possibly clean your oven, otherwise it’ll have cool spots and hot spots.

  26. Micah says:

I like it. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Biff in pain.

  27. Reg says:

Well the worst that’s happened to me grabbing a brownie before letting it cool is burnt fingers, so I’d imagine Biff has a big red mark where the brownie grabbed him… ouch.

  28. Reynard says:

Biff’s Brownies: “Eat them before they eat you…”

  29. nikie says:

!!! i had a brownie before reading this!

  30. Amanda says:

This cool pan would fix the soupy center brownies: http://www.bakersedge.com/

  31. Karen says:

My biggest problem with brownies is that I always get impatient and put the icing on before they’re entirely cooled … then the icing ends up melting and running all over the place.

It sounds as if your brownie problem could be solved by cooking the brownies for longer, at a lower temperature. And you should always make sure that the oven rack is in the middle of the oven to ensure even heating.

Biff’s brownie problem, on the other hand, can probably only be solved with a bigger knife.

  32. Super Llama says:

Now see, this is why I always approach my brownies with a shovel first.

  33. trevor says:

I think we have a theme week!

  34. Jenni Nikki says:

I was going to send the link Amanda sent after I’d read to the bottom of the page.

I want that thing so badly *cry*

  35. Tafreer says:

What did he do to make the brownies so angry to begin with?

  36. Micah says:

In Soviet Russia, brownies eat you!

  37. Kat says:

Lower the temperature for cooking the brownies and stick an empty pan below the brownies on the lower rack. This will make them cook more evenly.

  38. salmon says:

    my brownies always become perfect.
probably because i am an awesome brownie-maker.
    Always perfect 😀

  39. draagonfly says:

Don’t use a glass pan – I had the same problem with hard edges and gooey middle until I finally bought a professional grade square aluminum pan (Nordic Ware) at a discount home wares store (Home Goods if you have those where you are). I call it the Magic Brownie Pan because it makes them perfect every time.

  40. MasterMenthe says:

One word, and one word only can describe this scene:

    *Glorp*

    The sound of vengeful desserts…

Dessert theme week? I haven’t had even ICE CREAM in MONTHS! Why do you tempt me so?!

MOD: Good GOD! So THAT’S what happened to everyone! GLaDOS is this generation’s Junior!!!

(Junior isfrom Little Shop of Horrors, I think the name was. Look it up, and be VERY afraid…I still have nightmares…*shudder*)

  41. I like brownies with that thin crust and for the bottom to be soft.

Then again, I know baked good when I see them. That brownie is awfully mean.

  42. KZero says:

Hmm… brownies are one of the only things I’ve ever actually made o.0 and they’ve turned out fine. I use the boxed kind… were you using home made batter? That might be harder… but yeah… mine turn a bit hard and crusty around the four corners. But the rest is quite delectable. I actually added a peanut butter layer to one batch I made and that went well too

  43. Shorty says:

WTF!! What did he put in that brownie mix?

  44. marr965 says:

    Aardvarks…

  45. Shana says:

Lemme give you a little tip. Get a wooden toothpick, and stick it in the center. If any little wet batter comes up, let it cook longer.

  46. Zach Light says:

ou….theres this one recipe for brownies I know, you put choclate chips in the stuff, somehow you make it hot enough to make the stuff bake or whatever, and the choclate chips don’t melt.

  47. fadingroots says:

I am utterly reminded of (Calvin and Hobbes’) Calvin’s food-sludge. The one where it takes a fork and starts throwing itself at Calvin, specifically…

  48. Kyle says:

    Bad Pun:
    Thats a recipe for desater
Yeah I know its a bad pun but I had to say it

  49. BrainpanSonata says:

All these food-related strips… now I’m hungry for caramel-covered waffles again.

  50. Captain Bowser says:

Somehow this reminds me of chowder…. Oh well i had one of does… hot like lava…in a metaphorical sense.
