#381 – Apollo

Back when my family first discovered ramen noodles my brother and I ate them for lunch everyday for the whole summer. It was one of the few things besides cereal that we could prepare ourselves. One of my all time favorites was a chili flavored instant lunch… the kind that came in a styrofoam cup. I freaked out when they stopped making it. I would have bought a few cases of them if I had known they were going to disappear. They still make that flavor in the brick form… but it’s just not the same.

As I type this, Amanda is busy packing up orders. It’s fun hearing her talk about all the different places that Biff is travelling to. There’s a lot of orders going to Australia in this batch.

    GIANT SQUID NOODLES!

  2. Nathan B. says:

They still have the spicy ramen in cups. I have some in my room right now. I have never seen it outside of my college towns walmart, and they have a really large ramen section.

  3. Ryan says:

I can’t wait to get MY Book of Biff.
I thought I would eat a lot of Raman in my dorm…so I bought two cases. I brought 1 and a half back when the year was over.

  4. Bubble says:

Sounds tasty and exotic. Must try it sometimes.

  5. Lex says:

Thats exactly why I stick to instant chicken noodles…

  6. Chuck says:

I like eating raw brick form ramen noodles. Crunchy!

  7. O'Connor says:

I am so happy. Biff got updated while I was reading previous comics! I wonder how the squid got into the bowl in the first place…

  8. Jesso says:

    Yes! Crunchy Ramen!

Also, I like the oriental flavor. If you have two packets of flavoring, it’s twice as delicious!

Have y’all seen the ramen recipe page? http://www.mattfischer.com/ramen/

It took me a minute to figure out what “Apollo” had to do with giant squids.

I heard that someone tasted giant squid, but it had too much ammonia built up in its system, so it tasted nasty.

  10. Ben says:

when I was little, I would pretend that I didn’t know how to make ramen noodles, so I tricked my brother into “showing me how”

they seem to taste better when you don’t make them yourself…

  11. Sleepingorange says:

Aww, who would eat the majestic cephalopod of the Tartarean depths, the giant squid? Shame. Shame on you, Biff.

  12. MaskedMan says:

    Aaaaah!

He’s got an alien face-hugger in his soup!

  16. Micah says:

Is the title a reference to They Might Be Giants?

  17. Chris says:

    5 points to Micah. πŸ™‚

  18. Seraphine says:

    That squid is a lover
    and not a fighter.
    Lucky Biff should
    share his noodles.

  19. Jolser says:

Lucky it wasn’t Mad Cow flavoured…

At uni, we stumbled upon the worlds best ramen noodles, Hot and Spicy Thai. Almost every lunchtime there would be half a dozen of us waiting for the microwave.

I got my book on Saturday!!!!!! It is great!!!!!! Although it smells a little funny, but I am sure that will pass as it airs out and the fresh ink dries. I could live forever and never eat ramen noodles again.

  23. Chris says:

Please refrain from driving while smelling The Book of Biff. πŸ™‚

  24. Caz says:

  29. MaskedMan says:

New! Now on your grocer’s shelves!

    It’s Cup o’ C’Thulu!

  30. Earl Madness says:

Dude, they still have spicy ramen cups, I got a bunch in my garage right now.

I’ll post a picture today for ya here!

  31. Chris says:

The specific ramen I was talking about is a Maruchan Instant Lunch in Chili flavor.

  32. jess says:

my town has sooo many different flavours of that ramen stuff, it’s called mr noodle

  33. dragonbrad says:

i would like to stick to my cafeine thank you.

I know that that can’t be good, needs some hot sauce

  34. Chivalrybean says:

If you like spice, curry noodles are the BEST! If you go to Asian market stores, you can get noodles with more flavor that just the little sodium bomb that the ‘regular’ ones come with.

  35. Radical Edward says:

I pretty much live off noodles due to my wage being grossly unlivable. I live with my parents and they’re happy to buy me noodles.

Of course, I have more than ramen noodles, but noodles nonetheless.

  36. PlutoBum says:

see biff? this is what happens when you don’t cook things properly!

  37. Elkian says:

In South Korea, eats small live octopi is considered a sign of strength….probably because if you dont win, the octopus does. NOT PRETTY.

  38. Hagen says:

I am a calamari addict. I love it fried, pickled, grilled, stuffed with crabmeat then baked, you name it I have eaten it. Bcause of this I occasionally have dreams were I hunt kill and eat a giant squid. Sometimes In the dreams I make squids stakes, sometimes I make squid kabobs, sometimes squid burgers.

Makes me sad that they have to much amonia in them to be truly edible to humans

  39. Nokore says:

Looks like the squid’s about to eat HIM.

  40. Alice Love says:

One time I got ramen with actual octopus pieces in them. My first time trying to make them, the instructions were on the lid and I had already placed the boiling water inside. I turned it upside down over my face to read what to do next when the lid fell off and burned my face up.

You can’t even tell I’ve been burnt now, but it was the tastiest burn I endured. I had to go to the hospital to get my skin taken care off and a tiny piece of octopus pulled out of my nose. πŸ˜›

Moral of the story : Squids and Octopi don’t go out without a fight.

  41. Kyle says:

Someday I will buy some udon noodle soup and some teppanyaki squid from my favorite chinese restaurant just to mix them both together and eat it. You have inspired me to do so, Chris.
