#374 – Yolk

When I think of hard boiled eggs for some reason I always remember a conversation from back in high school. It was during lunch and one person mentioned helping her mother make deviled eggs for a party. There was a foreign exchange student sitting in our group and she asked “What are deviled eggs?” Her friend sitting next to her instantly replied “You hard boil a bunch of eggs, cut them in half, take the yolks out and mix them up with mayo, mustard and spices and then put them back… as if nothing ever happened.”

That’s cute; my friends frequently host foreign exchange students (Japanese generally, or Korean), and the culture differences are almost always amusing.

As to the comic, I love it. Do you read other web-comics, Chris? If you do, I suspect you’d enjoy Dinosaur Comics. Strips like this remind me of the ‘decimated’ discussion, and, more recently, ‘homographic homophonic autantonyms’.

I know you can make a battery out of a potato, and if you consider that some people eat boiled potatoes, couldn’t you have a potato powered egg timer? It’s just crazy enough for Biff to try it!

  3. Mega says:

    I wonder what egg-shaped timers taste like…

  4. Kree says:

I had one of those egg-shaped egg timers. Unfortunately, amusing shaped timers aren’t always the best made ones, because it broke in half, just like my timer that was shaped like a kettle.

  5. Warcrime says:

  11. MaskedMan says:

Silly Biff… You’re supposed to *scramble* your egg timers.

  12. Gobbledegook says:

My wife is from another country (Poland) , and she makes the best deviled eggs. The cultural differences are a definite plus.

Bubble: I have the same thing! 🙂

It changes colour when the eggs are done!

I like it when my mom makes deviled eggs with those little fish (not anchovies) which are plentiful in the Baltic Sea. I hate it, hwoever, when she makes them with tuna – the only type of fish I cannot eat because it has a taste – and I liked fish that don’t have taste or have a taste of oil (those little fish I told you about are canned with a lot of oil)

  19. Micah says:

Usually Biff makes me chuckle, but this one really got me laughing for some reason.

  23. Graceofbass says:

    wow, that formatted really weird.

  24. Pablo says:

Oh Silly Biff… Someone should teach him that egg timers are only tasty when fried…
Geez, he should at least google it at least once…
Well, Let’s just say that Biff’s head wasn’t really made for thinking ^^

    Good job Chris… Keep Biffing!

  25. AVEENA says:

  26. Garrett says:

A Hispanic friend refused to try “deviled eggs” because of the name. Eventually she decided to eat one, and soon started bringing deviled eggs to each church get-together from then on.

  27. Garrett says:

Oh, and my mom has one of those egg timers that you actually do put in with the egg and it changes color. She loves it.
