I remember being confused by those boxes of assorted chocolates when I was a kid. How is this happening? Why are they making candy that doesn’t taste good? Why would anyone buy this?

The worst part is the disappointment after you build up excitement for that last piece when you realize that there are none left.
“Mmm! These chocolates are so good!”
*Reaches for one more pie—realizes there’s none left*

weird, that never happened to me, probably because there was only ever one chocolate in the box that I liked, so I’d steal that one before anyone else could (or be dissapointed when someone else got it), then wander off.
It is somewhat of a tradition to buy a certain kind of box of chocolates at Christmas here in Sweden, and there is one piece of chocolate that almost nobody likes. Almost nobody in the entire country of Sweden (except my grandfather)! …Or maybe there are two of this piece of chocolate (with that specific flavor) in each box, I don’t know for sure.
Ninja chocolate: dissapears without a trace.
Normally when I eat that much chocolate in one sitting, I endure a second helping later, known colloquially as “loogies”.
I read in a magazine or newspaper article many years ago (ca. mid-1980s) that one of the reasons that some of the chocolates in those gift boxes weren’t being eaten was that they were made using European-originated recipes, and Europeans apparently tend to prefer their chocolate less sweet than we do. Not sure if this is still true, but it might explain the problem.
We found some Victoria Cremes (natch, at a shop in Victoria BC) that just _had_ to be shared. Hope they’re still there!
