I remember when I was a kid I was really proud of myself for “solving” soggy cereal. I would take a bite of dry cereal and then a sip of milk from a glass. Perfect! The only problem was every kid I told this to had also figured out this exact same trick.

To this day I still don’t get why you people consider cereal+milk is better than pure cereal.
When I was a little kid I usually didn’t like to eat cereal with milk, and it was because of that soggy cereal problem. Sometimes I would eat pure cereal as if it was some kind of snacks, though (and not for breakfast). I like to eat cereal with milk nowadays, but still not for breakfast…
My parents used to work for DHS back in the 70s. Once, Ma went to check on a family new to the US as part of the usual WIC program standards and practices. The parents were giving the kids cereal with Orange Soda in it for breakfast. Someone actually told them that it was the equivalent of OJ. Ma had to call an interpreter in to get the proper message through.
My solution is to only eat a little cereal with a lot of milk, and add a little cereal at a time until the milk is all gone. This is partly because I don’t really like milk by itself (and I don’t like to waste), but mostly because my childhood favourite cereal — frosted flakes — go soggy really fast! To this day I still eat cereal this way. My husband thinks I’m crazy.
