Continuing the theme from yesterday… when I graduated from college the first thing I did was fail to get Biff accepted as a syndicated newspaper comic. I made a website and posted the samples I had drawn but I gave up the dream and got an office job. When I first decided to start drawing Biff again my original concept was to start a blog and post new comics as a fun project. I figured there was probably someone else that had done something similar so I did a search for other comics to see what they looked like. This is when I first discovered the word “webcomic”. There were thousands of them and somehow I had no idea that they existed. One of the first comics that I discovered was Diesel Sweeties by R Stevens. It really stood out in my mind because he was the first person that I knew about that was making a living from his webcomic. A little light turned on in the back of my mind. A light that I had turned off years ago in defeat. It was quite an inspirational moment for me and he has given me a goal that I have be diligently working toward ever since. So was Biff’s New Year’s resolution to be drawn in high definition?
I’m having flashbacks to my child hood and countless hours staring at an Apple IIe playing all of those pixelated games that came on 5.5″ floppy disks.
This only makes me want a biff game even more.

@MaskedMan: It’s not horrible, it’s great. One of the reasons that it’s great is that so few people pick up on it.
None of my housemates did… I study CS and some of my mates from the course didn’t get it either.
Took me a while to figure this one out, but it’s great. 😀

Only Biff would pixilate intentionally. The rest of us just do it by accident.
I’m with Garrett, I thought Biff’s new year’s “resolution” was to not become a sprite comic… That’s what I get for reading it right after I wake up.

lol i don’t get how people don’t get it… but maybe that just says how much of a cs nerd i am. i think it’s hilarious, but for those who don’t get it – the pun is resolution (what you intend to do) vs resolution (the dimensions in pixels of a sprite or computer monitor). biff’s resolution (def. 2) dropped significantly.
For some reason I found iit funny even before I realized it’s a pun.
Also, there’s a live photo of what looks like some snowy town…maybe that’s supposed to make it funnier? I don’t know…

That’s the whole point – Only horrible and vile puns are worth the effort. If you can’t make people pass out by the sheer horror of the pun, it’s just not worth bothering with.
On top of that, there’s a second, and even third level here. For a certain subset of people, “getting pixilated” is/was a common euphemism for getting very, very drunk. Which is a common New Year’s activity. And also the subject of many a New Year’s resolution – A resolution which is almost always broken. So This pun is horrible on *multiple* levels – The work of a TRUE artist! 😀
