#964 – Butterfly

I’m tempted to buy a small personal humidifier and place it on my desk at work, aimed at my head. I can hear the skin on my face make a sort of crinkling sound whenever I smile or raise an eyebrow. Fortunately they sometimes let us go home on the weekends so that we can soak in our tubs of baby oil.

I knew some people once with a black cat they named Rorschach.

I took me some time before I found a reasonable solution: chapstick.

  3. Dear God, you just described my life for the last month or two in one, snotty metaphor. Bravo!

Bah, you’ve lived in the Northeast. You know how it can be completely humid in the summer and then all of a sudden you dry out in the winter. Getting a crusty face is just part of it. 😛

BTW: Hot cloth draped over your head with a nice hot cup of tea is a great way to not only rehydrate your face, but also your sinuses should you get a cold that causes such.

Oh, Oh, I see… I see… my future. Now I’m very depressed. And grossed out.

  6. My kingdom for a hand lotion that moisturizes without making my hands feel so greasy that I have to go wash them just to be able to turn a doorknob or type without gunking up my keyboard!

Ah yes, the Midwest winter dry out…Nostril scabs, petrified skin, scratching notes on your shins… Truly there isn’t a moisturizer out there that makes a big difference. I end up drinking gallons of club soda, you know moisturizing from the inside out. Soon it will be the ultra humid summer and our bodies will re-hydrate.

And really, what do we think we are going to find, rubies? Is it a ruby, no it snot.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That’s so me! (I have rhinitis kicking all the time in dry weather)

All this week, I’ve been having that old crooner song going through my head… “I’ll be seeing you in all the old familiar places…”

So I googled that much and found it.
It was Bing Crosby, and the lines I wasn’t sure of went:

I’ll find you in the mornin’ sun
And when the night is new
I’ll be looking at the moon
    But I’ll be seeing you

I have to go through spontanous nosebleeds every winter, and go through tubs of vaseline to combat it as best I can. Try putting up with that!

As for the face, an exfoliating facial buff and an oil-free lotion applied right afterwards has saved my skin this year. I struggled for years with the dry, itchy scaly patches around my nose and the embarrassment it caused. Finally…gone.

And what’s more, the whole setup is less than five bucks. Forget fifty-dollar microdermabrasion kits! Works on hands too…but go REAL EASY so you don’t strip the skin off.

Fear us Utahns, for our dry air turns our skin scaley! Hissssssssssss
All kidding aside (with kernel of truth), whenever I visit places like the South, I felt like swimming through air <.<

@Libramen I moved up to Vernal from Texas, and previously I lived on a little island in the southern Alaskan panhandle. The dryness and constantly having snot in my nose here makes me INSANE.

I just get dandruff in the winter. Blech.

  15. Jesso says:

@YeahYeahYouWere – Olay Quench. I haaaaaate most lotions because they make my skin feel slimy and greasy, but this stuff doesn’t do that. I have come to swear by it. Just don’t accidentally buy the “Touch of Sun” one, or your hands will turn orange.

I live in California, so I’ve never really had this problem. My lips will chap sometimes in Winter though.

  17. mrmeval says:

Take a bath. Then use mineral oil to seal the moisture in. If you do it right it won’t feel oily except at first. If you do all of you you won’t dry out near as much, have to drink as much water and won’t feel as crappy. Plus you won’t have as many infections from cracked skin in unlikely places.

  18. Acies says:

my friend who gets nosebleeds in dry weather a lot says laying out a tub of water helps if you don’t have a humidifier…. i just take really really long + really really hot showers to “humidify” my apartment, haha XD or boil lots of soup =)

wow, it really sucks to live in America, huh? I love living in my bland little country with its lack of climatic extremes 😛

I have been sick with a sinus infection. Unfortunately, I keep swallowing whatever comes up. (Mainly cause of a habit of “keeping things down” if you know what I mean). My only experience with Rorschach tests is seeing things like faces in cars and on a pot I cook ramen in. (The picture I see on the pot is of two cat heads)

I live in Jersey, You bake in the summer, and dry out in the winter. Not even chap stick can save my lips.

  22. weerd2normal says:

it alergy season here, so i am in constant need of claritan and chapstick

  23. Zaffa says:

Me, I’m Californian. The only time my nose has ever bled becasue of dry weather was last week. Seriously, the ONLY time. EVER. I was a little freaked out at first, really.
