#955 – Monolith

Somehow I’ve managed to get myself into a similar situation at work lately. I’ll get a request to do something that seems silly and so I will ask for clarification. They insist “Yes, please do it exactly as you described.” So I give up and complete the job. I send it out for their approval and “Please do everything completely different.”

Parsing sentences – Such an overlooked skill. 😛

  2. AdmiralChaos says:

Don’t think I could count how many times that has happened to me… 🙁
Then again, karma is a rather mischievous mistress. Heh.

  3. Grug says:

What do you do, Chris? I thought Biff was your job.

Also biff ordered a Fent. Ordering more would make him own fents.

  4. Ray Anselmo says:

“Oh (scatological reference), you did it just the way I told you to!”

  5. Space Butler says:

I especially like how the title ties in to the comic.

  6. Heinrich says:

yay for people being unable to articulate or parse simple ideas.

    and lol fents.

  7. Church says:

I love to do this to people on purpose, Then they get mad and I don’t have to do work for them ever again 😀

  8. Q. Pheevr says:

I think Biff got ripped off. Now, if the work order had said “one-picket fence,” then that would have been a different matter (cf. http://partiallyclips.com/2005/09/22/witness-stand/).

  9. Kitsune Dzelda says:

Ask for sense and someone gives you a penny.

  10. RS says:

One picket does not a fence make. Biff should sue.

  11. Random says:

Ha ha! Never though about it that way. I’m guessing “Thing you get that are not what you mean but they are what you said” week.

  12. Killian says:

As I working in construction, my first reaction is to shake my head in empathetic dismay. I’ve seen this principle put to practice LITERALLY… Today’s comic will go on the break room bulletin board.

  13. steve says:

He could put a sign on it saying “Need more pickets”?

  14. Rallyn says:

Yeah, and he’d probably get a bunch of striking union members to sit on his lawn, too

  15. Mad David says:

Although, Biff has a case here.
In “One picket fence,” the “one” applies to “fence.”
In “One-picket fence,” the “one” applies to “picket.”
So it’s the contractors, not Biff who have messed up their English.

  16. Matt says:

Hasn’t anyone caught on yet. This week is “Literal Week”! YAY FOR DOING WHAT IT MEANS!

  17. Radical Edward says:

    Mad David: I agree..

    The English is messed up.

  18. xydexx says:

End road work. Drive through window. Dodge trucks.

What’s that in the road, a head?

  19. xydexx says:

(What’s for dinner, mom? What’s in the bag, Dad? What’s this thing called, love? See, it’s all in the delivery…)
