#582 – Henning

A scene from my childhood:

My older brother: “Hey, wanna play 52 pickup?”
Me: (picturing an old 1952 beat up Ford pickup truck in my head) “Sure!”
My older brother then reveals the deck of cards in his cupped hand, squeezes and shoots the 52 playing cards into my face and walks away.

So here’s a cool thing. The United States had a holiday and I get a bunch of international book orders! That’s pretty neat. I’m going to see what I can do about cramming in a few more holidays into the calendar.

I’m glad this has happened to someone besides me at one point.

  2. Chris says:

Ah yes, that’s a good one, my dad got me with it and then I got my brothers with it.

  3. TheMusicGuy says:

    52 is such a weird number…

  4. Dwarg91 says:

52 card pickup is nothing compared to 208 card pickup when all four decks are the same

P.S. I have never had to do that

  5. Pieman says:

My sister did it on me, then helped me pick them back up. 52 card, not 208.

  6. RG says:

Aw, man now I want to try it…

my older brother wouldn’t even ask if i wanted to play, he would walk up to me…say, ‘hey guess what?” and shoot the cards in my face and just walk away

This was an interesting one. He should do this trick at a friends house^^ Wait… Does Biff have friends?

  11. starseedjenny says:

Yes! Biff can fill offices with balloons and packing peanuts at a moment’s notice!

  12. William Syler says:

    OR (response to starseedjenny)
HE COULD USE HIS POWERS FOR GOOD!!! Imagine, infinite food for the world!
    ULTRABIFF!!

  13. Pottery says:

Exceedingly, it is important to know when to stop. Especially since his long-dormant near-fatal pollen allergy.

  14. starseedjenny says:

    @William

    pfffffffft, that’s boring 😉

  15. MaskedMan says:

    @starseedjenny;
Just so – Boooooor-ing! This is the skill of the ultimate prankster! Olympic pools filled with infinte numbers of rubber duckies! Fountains laced with metric butt-loads of fizzies! Niagra Falls, colored birght pink with food color! The super bowl burried under popcorn! A joint session of Congress deluged with REAL pork!
    😀

  16. i.half4 says:

What? Your brother never said “pick ’em up?”

Is this one of the keys to successful magic? To remember that you may claim to be uninformed of the rules?

  17. So it applies to flowers as well as broomsticks…

  18. i.half4 says:

Ever notice how management is always the least likely to be required to work on Labor Day?

  19. Reg says:

    @ William Slyer:
But curing world hunger would be the obvious thing to do! Biff tends to do things unpredictable… so maybe the fact that curing world hunger is predictable means Biff would do it to be unpredicatble, but that means- oh forget I ever said anything. XD

  20. no name says:

    I like magic week. 😀

  21. Kagedviper says:

All the comics I read update differently, and they all take the same amount of time to catch up on….
This leads me to conclude that all of them make the same amount of comic: not enough…

  22. William Syler says:

    @ MaskedMan

…I must admit, those are genius. I can’t stop laughing

  23. NuklearAngel says:

52 card pickup is best when done into an awkward place. through a letterbox, for instance. into a pond. outside on a windy day. be inventive! more importantly, be cruel.

  24. brickface says:

I think that biff needs to work on learning things al the way through, but then we wouldn’t have the comics in the first place.

  25. Speakerblast says:

Biff’s flower Delivery service, clearance sale!

  26. Bononoman says:

    Pretty…

  27. jmkool says:

We’d play ‘Smoke or Fire’, and rig the deck so there were a few black cards in front. We’d hold the deck face-out, and it would show a black card. The other person would say ‘Smoke’. The went about two or three times, then we’d hit a red card, and they’d say ‘Fire’.

If you hadn’t guessed yet, that’s where 52 card pickup came in.
