Chapter: Comics
I still remember the sound of my mom’s electric typewriter. She would turn it on and let it warm up for a few minutes before using it. It had a satisfying hum like an idling lightsaber. When she sat down to type it sounded like a tiny machine gun spraying letters across the page. The only downside was that it drowned out the television. Fortunately she never did any typing on Saturday mornings.

lol. i’ve been in classes where people write loudly when taking notes. i managed not to get annoyed (much), though. it’s worst during quizzes and tests when the room is dead silent.
Hmm, i thought he would use something like a camera, with a flash.
The class i am in now isn’t that loud…since there is somuch to learn and write down…or we would fail our exam. heh…
haha, Bet that thing sucks to have to lug around from class to class. 😛
i bet either biff modified the thing to walk or he has something(s) (like pet designer phone bugs) carry it for him.
Damn! I’m lucky to be young enough to never have to touch one of those things! So now we know Biff’s kinda old school or just plain old?
Oh my god, one art class I was drawing with a pencil, and apparently I’m not allowed to do art in art class, ’cause some girl just gives me the dirtiest look and goes “Uh, can you like, stop that?” Bitch.
Clawsin’s a typewriter brand, yes?
my friend uses the camera mounted on his psp, to take a picture of the teachers notes on the board. simple, and effective
Yay, Another theme week maybe?!
I also had a early 90s typewriter, no warmup hum tho
@MOD: I use the same technique, but I use the camera in my pda. I also carry a microcassette recorder, in case I ever need to record something. I know I could use the pda, but I reckon using the device built solely for the task is a better idea.
Ugh! I hated when people did stuff like that! It was even worse when it was something they couldn’t control like sneezes, coughing, or heavy breathing (asthma and stuff). ou just had to tolerate it or move farther away from them.
Elle, you’re a stronger person than me. I would have immediately used the pencil to inflict greivous bodily harm to her person. However, since I’m not the stabby type that would pretty much translate into knocking her down and drawing a mustache on her or something.
It’s not more annoying that students
talking on their iPhones in class.
Elle. I bet she copies your answers during tests. Draw on your test paper, and when she looks, rat on her to the teacher.
@Gobbledegook
Who says Elle didn’t actually do what you suggested? She just told us that some bitch told her to stop drawing in art class. She didn’t tell us what happened after that…
There’s people in Biff’s world? I thought he scared them all off with all of his inventions!
hmm… this reminds me of ‘taking notes’ in my sociology class. all I did the whole class was play video games. ’twas the best class ever.
I don’t get the title…
I think we got another theme week already!
When I was five, my brother and I used to play on our grandmother’s typewriter. In what was surely a precursor to internet emoticons, we discovered that combinations of minuses and equal signs could yield depictions of laser-firing spaceships, engaged in outer-space dogfights and hiding behind asterisk asteroids.
My grandma had an ancient, 100% manual typewriter at here old house. It’s the first and last one I’ve ever seen, and I wonder where it’s gotten to…
The Duck Has Spoken.
We used to have an old manual typewriter. Damn, that thing was heavy! But we never used it, so Saturday mornings, as well as all other times or the week, for free from it.
On a side note, I remember when it was actually worth getting up Saturday morning (:
I’m young enough that my only ‘real’ experience with typewriters is playing with the one that we had in my high school’s props department. I know how to use one – I’ve seen plenty of movies where they’re used – but I’d never really used one. The theater teacher thought I was funny, with how fascinated I was by it. It was really cool, especially since it still actually worked.
@Felix – hey, it’s still kinda worth getting up on Saturday mornings. CW has a pretty good Batman show on Saturdays. You’re never too old for Batman!
I sense a theme this week…
I guess he doesn’t need all those pencils he chucks into the ceiling because he has a typewriter!
i just saw yesterday that one of the art teachers at school has like and early typewriter in the supply closet
ya know, the kind tht were invented just after electricity?
OMG!, thats soo funny because a friend of mine in college, actualy brings a typewritter to his classes, and all of his teachers flip out on him!!
i used to doodle like mad throughout elementary school and one day in the third grade i was going to town on some amazing piece of third grade artwork with a marker so that it was loud enough for the teacher to hear while he was giving out intructions. he told me to stop once and went on with his lecture. so i stopped and then started again when i deemed his lecture unworthy of my attention. he told me to stop again. this repeated itself at least three times.
A guy I dated awhile back had a laptop when he was in college. He’d take notes on it in class, but the keys really clicked loudly, and he knew he was pissing people off.
So he made a “paper keyboard”. He took the laptop apart at the keyboard level, took two pieces of paper, drew out the keys and letters and numbers on one piece, then sandwiched the sensor membrane that the keys hit to send the message to the computer what letter was typed between the two pieces of paper, and then put some sort of thin clear covering over the whole thing.
It was absolutely silent. He used to take it with him when he had to go to the bursar’s office and had to wait in line for awhile. It’s so weird, but it worked.
a mate of mine got an electric typewriter and typed his essay on it then asked me how to print…
the following asthma attack put me in hospital
I actually do take notes on a laptop in class now. This comic is now my desktop background.
I get to use a Laptop in official exams. No-one can talk, but i get to RAT-A-TAT-TAT all over the room. 😛
where does he get the money for this stuff?
