Chapter: Comics
I think my weirdest dreams come when I’m lying in bed all day and night recovering from the flu. I usually have some Chapstick on the table next to my bed during the winter months. I woke up once with the Chapstick in my hand and panicked that I had inadvertently glued my mouth shut.

I’ve had some quite weird dreams too where I have woken up (in real life, not in the dream) and thought that whatever happened in the dream was still going on. The only one that I can remember right now is when I was making a house out of clay, and the house was collapsing right in front of me. There I was, sitting up in the bed and flailing frantically with my arms to fix a little clay house that wasn’t even there… I must have looked ridiculous.
Also, I’ve had some dreams where I’ve gotten some random item, and then I have been confused when I can’t find the item right when I wake up.
I’ve been doing that recently. I occasionally wake up at night thinking I’m reading a book. Somehow, I think I know I’m dreaming, because I try to keep myself from waking up and realizing that I’m trying to read my sheets.
I sometimes think I’m still dreaming for a while after I wake up. I somehow don’t notice there is a bed under me and think I’m just floating in darkness. In one case, I felt the blanket on me, but thought it was a guy hugging me, and attributed the darkness to the fact that I had been hypnotized.
During the time when Jaws was in theaters, and this was a different time for movie hype, there was a neat game based on the film, where you fish various pieces of junk from a big plastic shark’s mouth. It occasionally pops up in altered form in dollar stores. Anyway there was an ad for it that used stock footage of a shark lunging toward the camera. I dreamed of that ad, in that way you dream of a TV show, and somehow you are experiencing it like you were there. The shark went at me, and I tried to hit it.
…And woke up in mid-swing, and popped my little brother upside the head. To this day he swears it was deliberate.
Wow, what a cool memory.
I remember that game… wasn’t it called Shark Attack? …or was that the name of an old Atari 2600 game… or was it both?
No, it was Jaws. It’s loosely based on the necropsy scene in the movie, where they slice a shark open to see if it was the maneater, and pull out all sorts of junk, but no human remains. In the cased of the game, the shark is kind of like a bust, mostly upper body lunging up from the water (or the table/floor, as the case may be), with a hinged lower jaw held closed with a rubber band. You load up his mouth with various items, which weigh it so it stays open. You take turns using a stick with a hook to fish pieces out of the mouth, and try not to either nab the heaviest ones out first, or knocking them into the sharks throat, which will make the mouth snap shut. If your hand is small enough, you can try using your fingers, but the hook is your best bet. If Jaws bites on your turn, you lose.
My wife will occasionally have a dream that she is really angry at me for some dumb reason (ie – I refused to go out during a tornado to pick up lettuce for the salad). This usually results in me waking up to a punch in the arm. However, one night I was having a dream that involved giant ants running around biting people’s heads’ off. At the same time, she was dreaming that she was mad at me. This time, instead of punching me, she grabbed my head and started shaking it. That was the scariest dream I have ever had in my entire life.
This is the best!
I wonder, how long do you have to be married before your dreams compliment each other like that?
That particular instance was within our first three months. Surprisingly, we have now been married for 7 years and have 2 children with one in the oven.
I had a dream where I was in my room and my alarm clock went off for no reason. In my dream I was thinking I should not try to turn off my alarm, but leave it running while I take it apart to test what part failed. I only woke up after the dream alarm stopped making noise. Upon awakening I realized I had over slept by one hour, the same length of time it takes for my alarm clock to “give up”.
Recently I was 5 minutes into waking up and had fell asleep again, but not “Asleep” just sorta day dreaming, suddenly I heard a Siren sound that sounded exactly like my Town’s Tornado Alarm, I sorta shrugged it off but as it got louder I realized maybe it was the siren and stumbled out of bed only to find that my brother had turned on our Dryer and a glance out the window revealed the crisp blue sky, ultimately I went back to sleep since the threat was gone.
