#1618 – Blown

Unfortunately this is an autobiographical strip. At first I was aware of movement but the objects were out of focus. I didn’t realize they were so close to me. My initial reaction was to blow on them to get them away from me. Unfortunately this just gave them more power like giving a kid on a swingset a big push.

You know that cute scene at the end of Charlotte’s Web where all the baby spiders go flying away on their butt-strings? For some reason, I didn’t know that this actually happened. Until we had BBQ under my shabby patio cover. Talking with my in-laws, my voice trailed off as I see hundreds of teeny spiders floating down onto my in-laws’ heads. Charlotte’s Web isn’t so cute anymore.

      It’s called “ballooning.”

A bit of constructive criticism, could you alter the text to say “Biff only had a…” instead? Sorry, but that’s just my opinion. I’m a big fan and only wish to give positive input, or at least input toward a positive end.

Why? Biff is the one speaking in the caption.

Okay, I’m just not used to it. I’ve been reading for a while now and got used to third person. Sorry if I sounded pushy, that’s just how I felt after reading this one. We’ll all have our opinions, but artists should always do what they feel is right.

I used to do third person exclusively and it works fine when you read them one strip a day. The problem is when they are in a book and you get 20 pages in a row that all start with “Biff realizes…” it can be a bit much. 🙂

  4. A few years ago, we visited some kind of viking park as a little school journey. I got to try out a viking helmet and hold a viking shield, but guess what? The back side of the shield was full of spiders, both live and dead ones! But I couldn’t put the shield down and yell “Ew! Spiders!”, because that’s not what a viking would do…

My fear of spiders actually got a bit better after this spider-shield incident. Maybe I realized that big, icky spiders don’t necessarily go into attack mode just because you’re that close to them?

“oh no more spiders” I think that’s my favorite tag so far. I’m excited to see what else is gonna use it.

    They’re just doing whatever a spider can…..

A little unintentional (?) trolling from Space Butler: “I’m a big *fan*.”

GREAT! so much for using fans now… why does biff have to share the same phobia of spiders as i do…
