#1611 – Expelled

Thinking back I’m amazed at how often I would get sick just in time to ruin my weekend. I would feel it coming on while on my way home Friday night. Then just as magically I would feel pretty good as I was getting ready for bed Sunday night. The whole weekend was shot and it made it feel like I had to work 10 days in a row instead of the usual 5.

  1. Once when I was around 14 or so, I got ill for about two weeks! I did miss out on maybe four school days, but then we had Easter break! A week off from school isn’t fun when you suffer from food poisoning… All I ate during that time was blueberry soup and Marie biscuits, nothing else. When I had been ill for a whole week and I still didn’t get any better, I was wondering if I would survive… But I did (at least I think so – otherwise I must be a zombie now).

Sometimes, when Im sick, I dont get rest.

When Im sick, I got out and have fun, hell with illness. Course, theres the fact that being outside with a woozy head might not help it, but its worth it by god. Course, I havent been ill in a very long time. -w-

There were two years where I lost the last two weeks of summer break to accidents — the first to a nearly broken back and the attending severely strained ligaments — the other to a severe case of road rash. Both healed just in time to start school.

That is a gross drawing and you technically didn’t draw anything gross. Good job. lol

If I start getting sick during the week, I can usually hold it at bay until the weekend, when I can get some appropriate OTC meds, and then have one entire day to be horribly sick, and be better the next day.

If I get reaalllly sick, with the Flu, Monkeypox, the Ick, or Girly-Eyes Measles, what have you, then I get to indulge in something I call “Fever Floyd.” Just dose up, pop The Wall into your player, and space out until the fever breaks. Prog Rock works really well. I’ve also had good results with In The Court Of The Crimson King.

That’s a pretty common symptom of long-term stress, actually. Your body becomes addicted to adrenaline and other stress hormones, and the sudden lack of stress on Friday afternoon/evening causes headaches & flu-like symptoms. As soon as you start stressing about work again on Sunday evening or Monday morning, you feel normal again. Generally a good indication that you need a vacation.

Really?! Well, that certainly explains alot…

Im glad someone knows why that happens.

I once got sick the SECOND we left for a vacation to Colorado. Can’t enjoy the mountains much with a runny nose and a terrible headache.

Heat exhaustion can be a big problem for people who work in mascot costumes, unsurprisingly. I’ve been told that Disneyland has park staff whose sole job is to drive around looking for collapsed mascots, loading them onto the cart and driving them to the first aid station.

That has got to be one of the most surreal jobs ever.
