Yeah that sketch was from December 1991. Biff has evolved a lot since then. I think the gag works without the blood. I guess I set a precedent in some earlier comics where he’s decapitated or cut in half and there’s no blood so I’m sticking with that for now.
I fear going to one of my grandparents cuz they have low ceilings. Nothing is more scary then being 6 foot tall, with mid back length hair, and having a ceiling fan on high just 2 inches above your head. *shudders*
heh, one time, I was helping my uncle remodle his store, and I was climbing up onto the personal lift. When I started standing up, my hat got knocked off and I just climbed right back down to get it. That’s when I noticed the ceiling fan directly above the ladder. And it was set on high. Lucky I had the hat on, or it would have been my hair…
For some reason this makes me think of a bug in an old Infocom game, Starcross, where if you were to try to throw your hands in the air, they’d go sailing off to the horizon.
That’s why when I yawn, I stretch my arms out, not up. It seems a lot safer to imitate a crucifixion than to have your hands pummelled by a high speed ceiling fan.
I’ve noticed that ceiling fans are either really low or really high up. the ceiling fan here in my room is so high i have to stand on my bed to reach it to change the settings. and I’m 6’2″. and also when i was little at my grandma’s, me and my cousin would get tomatoes, apples, potatoes and stuff and throw em up in the ceiling fan. there are still stains on the ceilings. we also did similar stuff on her exercise bike. if you get the wheel spinning fast enuf it can mash potatoes quite nicely.
Ceiling Salad!!!
I have an 8 foot high ceiling, 3.5 foot tall bed, (it’s got drawers below it) and a ceiling fan about half a foot to the left of my bed. Need I say more.
My father and I are both tall enough that any stretching will put us right into the fan. It really hurts when you are taking a shirt off and it gets caught on a blade and thrown right back into your face.
ghost busterd did a show on that. they tried to cut someone’s head off with a ceiling fan made out of a lawn mower. it didn’t work, but it looked soooo coool
I have a ceiling fan right beside my bed, which is a bunk bed, and I sleep on the top bunk.
Sometimes I stick my hands or head in to the spinning blades,
On purpose, because it feels cool.
I was on my top bunk once, dangling my legs off the side, and my foot ran into the fan. I had a fan with thin metal blades. Took a great chunk out of the side of my toe. Not too much later, my fan was changed out for one with nice thick wooden blades.
Though, when I was really little, I would go to my friend’s house, and we’d put all his toy cars on top of the fan (how we got to it is beyond me), and then we’d turn the fan on and hide under his conforter so the cars wouldn’t hurt us and let them fly all over the room… Was so much fun! We got in trouble, but we did it a lot 😛
And I always have to be careful changing in my room with the fan on. Tall, small crowded room with fan right in the middle….
I actually was staying at a friend’s house last week and was putting on a shirt and got my knuckle caught in her ceiling fan (6’5″ btw), needless to say, there was much blood… and now that I know of Biff, I’m sure he’d have been proud. …Even more so when I did it to the same hand later that night.
Y’know, you’d be surprised by how many times it happened to me.Well, except the hand amputation part. Still, I’m a 6’4 ft tall guy. It happens to me once a week, really.
Glad I could make ya smile AJ :3
Ok, my room is the worst ventillated one in the house (Seriously, who the hell designed it? The vent is literally 2 feet away from an opposing wall- the air has no room to move in! -_-; ) so I have to keep my ceiling fan whirring along like a little hummingbird. Well, I’m a tall man… x_x; and my ceiling is… I’m not sure, the living room ceiling is 8 feet, and the other ceilings are a little lower… Lets say my room’s ceiling (lets be generous) 6.5 feet? And I’m between 5.8 and 5.11 (we havent measured for a few years), with long arms… yeah… x_x I’ve thwacked my arms a few times…
I hate hate HATE it when that happens! It always scares me so much that I snap out of the stretch and struggle because I’m trying to yawn and scream at the same time.
the originol sketch looks different.. .where did the blood go, and the face expression?

I actually managed to break a lamp above me while doing that, it shattered and fell all over me, you don’t want to know the bloody details
hehe it looks like his hands are floating and are about to smack him in the head. Guess I would too if he chopped me off like that….
Ouch. That has got to sting.
That might be me, soon. My new apartment has a ceiling fan, and I can almost put my PALMS on the ceiling without going onto my tip-toes.
I fear going to one of my grandparents cuz they have low ceilings. Nothing is more scary then being 6 foot tall, with mid back length hair, and having a ceiling fan on high just 2 inches above your head. *shudders*
I have actually done that, It actually hurts, no blood but the fan does not work well anymore.
This is so true. I’m 6′ and when I stretch my hands like that…. yeah I understand this comic so well.
I knocked out a light fixture doing that once. It wasn’t me that got hurt tho…
I think Biff just needs to move out of that house. He has way to many problems with the low ceiling.
heh, one time, I was helping my uncle remodle his store, and I was climbing up onto the personal lift. When I started standing up, my hat got knocked off and I just climbed right back down to get it. That’s when I noticed the ceiling fan directly above the ladder. And it was set on high. Lucky I had the hat on, or it would have been my hair…
This used to happen to me in the Summer a lot at my friend’s house. Well … my hands never came clean off, but other than that, dead on.
This actually happens to me quite often. You know, minus the losing my hands part.
Ouch….
Here in Australia it’s a requirement to have ‘safety fans’. They’re really not much less painful than the old ones.
So what’s the point of safety fans if they hurt as much.
Wow, when i was little i always thought that would happen to me if i stuck my hand to close too the fan. it scared me.
IF your happy and ya know it clap your…stubs?
I’ve done that so often…
It doesn’t have to be a low ceiling if you’re tall. >.
For some reason this makes me think of a bug in an old Infocom game, Starcross, where if you were to try to throw your hands in the air, they’d go sailing off to the horizon.
Malachite, that comment put a big smile on my face! XD
That’s why when I yawn, I stretch my arms out, not up. It seems a lot safer to imitate a crucifixion than to have your hands pummelled by a high speed ceiling fan.
Curse you all, tall people!!! I can’t touch the ceiling even standing on my bed. =/

JAZZ HANDS!
Didn’t he get rid of that thing after the eyebrows incident?
Oh my God! I have that fear every time my fan is on! (Not so much since I moved into this house, but the house before this one had lower ceilings.)
My father and I are both tall enough that any stretching will put us right into the fan. It really hurts when you are taking a shirt off and it gets caught on a blade and thrown right back into your face.
i did a yawn-stretch once while sitting in a chair…i leaned backwards and “bla-bla-bla!!!” …my knuckles hurt for quite some time…
ghost busterd did a show on that. they tried to cut someone’s head off with a ceiling fan made out of a lawn mower. it didn’t work, but it looked soooo coool

silent, I think you mean “myth busters” Ghost busters is something entirely different…
there was a girl who went to my old school that had no arms past her elbows, and no legs….
she had better handwriting than me…
:p I have no problem with that. Even if the ceiling is low, I still don’t reach it. Tis one of the few blessings of being short.

What’s this about originals?
This isn’t the original version?!
AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
There’s a ceiling fan ad here at the bottom!
*has an image of Biff caught in the ceiling fan, being spun around by his eyebrows* ow ow ow…
woo! lets hear it for the tall people!
i’m thirteen and 5′ 7 1/2″!
waChaaa
I did this last week and knocked out a lightbulb, glass everywhere. Great comics by the way.
I’ve done that. :
We don’t have a low ceiling though. I’m just tall.
Got this nasty cut on my finger. Glad the fan wasn’t on the highest setting.
Well the good thing is he can always glue? them back .
Who needs glue? Get the flaming hammer!
That’s happened to me before:P
Poor biff. Ceiling fans have been a constant terror since puberty…last week.
I actually was staying at a friend’s house last week and was putting on a shirt and got my knuckle caught in her ceiling fan (6’5″ btw), needless to say, there was much blood… and now that I know of Biff, I’m sure he’d have been proud. …Even more so when I did it to the same hand later that night.
yea, ive done that, not as much fun as you would think
I’ve done that. Luckily the fan was sort of old. Still hurts though.
Y’know, you’d be surprised by how many times it happened to me.Well, except the hand amputation part. Still, I’m a 6’4 ft tall guy. It happens to me once a week, really.
so I guess its not cooler on the inside of the ceiling fan either?
He kinda reminds me of Bongo Bongo from LoZ:OoT
..i did this in my room 6 days before i read this comic…and lets just say is hard to type with a swollen wrist
Glad I could make ya smile AJ :3

Flying hands!
Okay… So, while reading this, Chumbawumba’s “I get knocked down” started on my music player… SO. BIFF’S. THEME!
…uh… how did he lose BOTH hands, when the fans only above one?
stupid, stupid biff…
I hate hate HATE it when that happens! It always scares me so much that I snap out of the stretch and struggle because I’m trying to yawn and scream at the same time.
cut off arms at shoulders, remove legs between hips and feet, cut off neck biff style rayman
I can’t believe nobody has posted this yet… (I’ll probably get pelted with tomatoes for it, too.)
Look, Ma! No hands!
i find it funny that there is an advertisement for ceiling fans under the comic
Poor Biff; Whether box, ceiling or industrial, he seems to have such bad luck with fans… :-/
