#1291 – Pierced

Those coin operated binoculars at tourist attractions are pretty amazing. They have to endure all kinds of weather and abuse by the public. I wonder how long they last. Most of the ones I’ve seen seem to have been there for many decades.

    No, they just look that way because they have been out in the weather, etc

    And none of those binoculars ever work. Every time I put money in one of them has been disappointing. I don’t think they last very long at all. I think they break the exact same day they’re installed. Or they break in transport to the place they’re due to be used.

    They were featured on one of those “How It’s Made” shows a few months ago. IIRC, they’re designed to last about 10-15 years with regular maintenance.
