Chapter: Comics
I guess these alarms are heard so often that most of the employees are numb to them at this point. A few times a year I’ll be leaving a store and the alarm will go off but nobody comes over to see what is going on. I just sort of stand there like a lost puppy for a minute before giving up and leaving.
Also, I’ll be at NEWW2 tomorrow! Hopefully you will all look like your avatars below so that I will recognize you!

I too have stood there while an alarm blasted away in my ears just looking around. Eventually, embarrassment takes over and I slink off… pride hurt.
One of my friends got busted for shoplifting because, he had taken a security tag off and threw it. Well, it kind of circled around and stuck to his butt. Now, he is banned from Boyd County, Kentucky… forever!
Looking at the menu poster behind him, I have to wonder; what sort of fast food restaurant puts security devices on their food?
Yes, I absolutely look like my avatar. I’m just that square. You know, I can’t even get to NEWW2, I live in Australia. It’s been very annoying – the HP premiere, Harrods, and now this 😛
What I find very irritating is when I buy electronics and walk into another store, or when buying clothes and people leave those… whatever-they-are’s on, and I walk into another store.
Once, I saw someone stealing something, and their defence (when caught) was “I didn’t even BUY anything in this stupid store!”
And the only difference of the menus behind biff is the way the straw is facing, assuming the burgers are the same. Maybe he gets a free invisible-green-car with one but not the other?

Actually, it’s a mixed clothing/fastfood store 😀 I mean cmon, it makes sense that it would be, since well-fed customers shop longer… ^^
We often had to assist customers that kept beeping with finding the culprit. Customers that usually been in several shops before getting to us.
I work in an electronics portion of a store and we have a seperate detector for those flat square tags, but maybe 1/4 of them ever get disabled when we run them directly in front of the disabling portion.
So yes, we get a bit numb to it…
Why yes, I’d love some rocket fries with that.
It’s not that we (people who work at stores) become deaf to them so much that they go off to much to even bother. They even go off on people entering the store.
They are pointless and useless, except for perhaps deterring the most timid of criminals.
At the grocery store I work, it’ll go off on me when I take out the trash. Even the management doesn’t take it seriously. They told me that it didn’t matter what I keyed in to turn it off, so long as some one shuts it up.
I’ve had those things go off on me for a loaf of bread. Actually I wonder if cell phones don’t sometimes set them off. It would explain a lot.
Speaking of explaining a lot, does Biff now have to wait for the other end of the digestive process before he can leave?
@Fafnir13: That’s the point… regular customers ARE the most timid forms of potential criminals. It’s a discouraging device!
@howlslikeawolf:
That’s the funny part of the strip…
Yes, I look *exactly* like mine. See you there.
There have been several times that the sensors will go off while I was shopping, and I’ll stand at the door, then the clerk will off-handedly wave me on, without even looking up. It’s actually kinda strange. I don’t look like a cool thief? Rats!
@ Baughbe: I’ve found that certain types of lithium-ion batteries will set them off. So, yeah, it could be that cell phone in your pocket.
A friend set them off consistently for nearly a year, got used to the inspections. Then some cashier who’d seen it before asked for his shoe, and put it on their little de-activator. I guess it was built into the sole of the shoe.
Now it stopped happening and I can go to Home Depot with him again.
Also…
If I was there, i would look just like my picture.
I mean, Sometimes it’s bad looking like Shakespeare with 3D glasses on.
I am female.
Some of those are peel and stick devices that are disabled by a magnetic field. People will peel them off and throw them on the floor the pocket the item, then someone steps on it.
Digest it like you stole it!
Nice job on the security lights in the drawing, they look good.
Did anyone else notice that he didn’t copy and paste each menu board, but actually drew each picture?
