#1045 – Bombard

One of my favorite vacation memories is from a trip to Wisconsin with my mom and little brother. We stayed for a few days at a lakefront resort hotel sort of place. One night after dark I had remembered hearing about an annual meteor shower and realized it was currently happening. My brother and I went down to the pool house and snuck out some lawn chairs. We set them up in a clear treeless spot, leaned back and counted the shooting stars for hours.

that sounds so awesome. the only time i’ve ever seen the milky way is when I was on vacation with my family. I never get to see it since I’ve always lived near or in the city.

I’ve never seen a meteor shower. I did catch a glimpse of the shuttle and space station earlier this year, though. Two tiny little dots connected to each other… It’s just mind-blowing to think of how incredibly far away they were, yet I was still able to see them.

    The Duck Has Spoken.

last meteor shower that was in the area completely creeped me out, the sky went blood red just as they started

Never seen a meteor shower, though there was a Lunar eclipse a while back. The moon went all red, it was rad.

WTF, I just used the word ‘Rad’ in a sentence.

That is an awesome memory to share with your brother. My younger sister and I went out in our yard in lawn chair and at least four blankets each ( it was November) and we drank hot chocolate and watched the meteor shower. It was amazing.

    Perseids FTW!

Caught a good view of them out to sea. Let me tell ya – Far out to sea, with NO light pollution, you can see SO much more than you can on land… It was like floating under a bowl of flaming glitter.

Used to live in the country, had great views except northward where the nearest city was. Now in a small town and its bad enough some constellation stars can’t even been seen. Light pollution is rough.

That ship is going to need a LOT of Bondo.

I haven’t seen a meteor shower, but I have seen both a blood moon and a blue moon. The blood moon was FREAKY. All reddy-orange….now I see what it is usually considered a bad omen.
The blue moon was kind of cool, but not very blue. Sort of a faint blueish tinge.

  10. MaskedMan says:

Technically, a blue moon is a second full moon within the same calendar month. Happens every three years.

Also, can be the third full moon within a season holding four full moons – Same differece, really; Once every three years.

i got some pretty sweet stargazing atop Mt. Garibaldi, it’s very high up, but it’s far enough from any long range transmission lines for their to be no chance of there being any light

I’ve only caught a good view of a meteor shower once. Intensely cool, though. I have been lucky enough to catch both a lunar and solar eclipse. Considering how long it’s supposed to be before another total solar eclipse will be visible where I live, I’m really glad I caught that one.

I’m always sad when a friend says “hey, did you see the meteor shower last night?” then I remember that it happened and I completely forgot!

I’m excited for the next meteor shower. I recently moved from an urban area to small town Midwest, and I may finally be able to see one!
