#1042 – Engorge

Sometimes things seem more special just based on their scarcity. It turns out lot of that scarcity was artificially placed on me by my parents. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized I could get Fritos year round and they are not restricted to when the corn harvest begins.

Wednesdays are very special. After all, they only happen once a week.

Naked Juice is really expensive so I only drink it when I get sick. Kind of makes you want to get sick. >.>

happy hump day cake, man i could totally go for one right now. But the sugar would totally prevent me from sleeping…unless I eat JUST ENOUGH that my body can’t handle it and crashes. I love how that works.

that could be why i love icecream so much, we’re only allowed it on weekends after dinner (large family, lack of money when we were kids) and now ive realised its not restricted to weekends only. my friends think im weird for eating it when its -2 degrees celcius but THATS THEIR LOSS

Is it coincidence that you reffer to birthday cake on… my birthday?

  10. baughbe says:

Wow, Biff gets more for a Wednesday than I got for being Employee of the Month. That’s it, I’m growing my eyebrows out.

  11. billy says:

Oh no! Rabid Biff is attacking that defenseless cake!

  12. Chris says:

Ha ha, Happy Birthday to everyone that has a birthday today 🙂

  13. MaskMan says:

    @baughbe; You and me both.

  14. Doctor Why says:

My favourite cake is sold by a store that only makes it as a full sheet cake. And though I often crave it, I don’t ever want more that just a tiny slice. A sad Catch-22.

  15. i.half4 says:

Doctor Why: You’re missing the point. You have a freezer? Buy the cake and a few square tupperware boxes. Enjoy a small slice every Wednesday, and one every 22nd of the month to celebrate Joseph Heller Day.

  16. Cari says:

My favorite cake comes from the bakery at Publix supermarkets in South Florida. Unfortunately, I live in Colorado. My parents come out twice a year, and they are under strict orders to bring cake. If they don’t, they have to turn around and go back to get some.

  17. August says:

I feel the same way about McDonald’s’s hotcake/sausage breakfast combo. When I was younger, I would only have them when me and my parents woke up really early to travel somewhere. Now that there’s a golden arches walking distance from my house, I find that they’ve lost their allure.

  18. Mister Disco says:

I’m still searching for Starfruit, I can remember the flavor but no store has them ever.

  19. Albert says:

That sounds just like my grandfather, August. He’ll only get those when he’s traveling. Says they taste different when he’s on the road.

  20. Micah says:

    February cakes taste better.

When I was a kid, chicken soup and hot baked custard were two rarities reserved only for when I was ill – but now, I’m tall enough to reach the stove and food-savvy enough to make them. They’re still comfort food, but not as alluring as they used to be.
However, it’s not the quite same – when I was a kid, we lived almost next door to an Asian grocer, and Mum used to buy a particular spice mix which gave the soup a lovely peppery smell and a really nice flavour. The Asian grocer is gone now, and I can’t seem to find the same mix or the basic ingredients of it anywhere. I’ve asked several different specialty shops, and no luck 🙁

  22. Frogger says:

@i.half4 Do you realize just how big a full sheet cake is? and how much they cost? Not sure a standard freezer would fit that much cake…….but we can try.

  23. Foxxglove says:

My husband picked me up from the office one afternoon, and handed me roses. I asked him why and he responded, “It’s Wednesday.”

Wednesday is always good enough. 🙂

  24. Valdrec says:

Anyone remember when we had two Wednesdays a week? Man, those were the days…

  25. Tech says:

We always get the dropped or not-spoiled-but-unsaleable items in the break room. Usually some sausage-and-cheese platers, but if we’re lucky, we get a smooshed cake, broken cookies, or an overripe fancy cheese tray. Today we got a box of brownies. And I just realized I’m grateful for the customer’s leavings. WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?
