I noticed that there's no way to get to the bifforum from the home page. I noticed this forevers ago, but am now mentioning it because I tried getting here from a different computer and couldn't do it via the comic itself.

Also I miss you guys. I realize it is kind of dead here nowadays, but I am home from college for the first time and I'm having a bout of nostalgia.

And here you had me getting all worked up over Orangey getting hit by a car or something. My eyes were watery and everything.

I'm all for a more active Bifforum.

These were pretty much my sentiments when I read it.

Hi Scarf!
Yeah I pretty much stopped going here. Or I'd come to the front page, sigh and click away. I am a lazy sort of person.

It's just the lack of activity that makes me sad (well, that and the prospect of Orangey getting hit by a car). This was the first forum I ever joined, and the only one I ever became a regular in. This place served as my induction into nerd and Internet culture. The username I use on all my accounts is because I panicked when Chris informed me that his comment system censored "smartass", and "Torg" was the first thing that popped into my mind. My experiences here also helped me grow past the kind of person that tries to use "smartass" as a username, and for that I am eternally grateful. For the last three years this has been the place I'd go to goof off with people I knew and who knew me; in some ways I feel closer to the people here than I do to everyone I know in real life. Even if there's nothing new here, it's nice to go back and read past conversations every one in a while.

That was kinda the idea. Also I've wanted to say some of that for a while and that seemed like as good a place as any.

Save for the naming part, this was exactly the same for me. The thing I loved about this forum was that there were enough frequenters to keep it active, but few enough that it didn't seem impersonal; I'm members of a few forums, but none of them I've been as active a member as on this one. I'd consider all of the frequenters friends - something I never do with people I don't actually know. In regards to being closer to you than people I know in real life; aside from family and three of my friends, this is true.

Why do I feel like I'm speaking at a funeral?

And don't get rid of the forum. I have so many fond memories of this place.

Well it "died" because it became so hostile to new members. I eventually took the link off the front page because it was making me look bad sending new readers into such a bubbling mess.

I suppose. It's like inviting people to become part of someone else's family.

Though I'm referring to the active members becoming less active.

Speech time. Shields up:
God, this place... a lot of firsts. When I showed up, I was twelve- no real friends, no place to be, no clue. Not a modicum of a social life or even an internet life. It was a real eye-opener when people started liking me. For my personality, no less. I really looked up to everyone here, because they were all so funny and smart and everything. It kind of overwhelmed me, so I started spending hours and hours on the internet- I was introduced to the online world in this small corner of it. Years later I'm doing a lot more living IRL. But everyone on this forum was always so nice to me. I want to thank everyone for putting up with me during what was probably the most awkward adolescence in recent memory. You guys really determined what worth people can hold for me, and what worth I'm capable of holding for everyone else. For first and best friends, nobody could do better.

You were always awesome, Ziggy. I never noticed anything that needed putting up with.

Reading some of your early conversations hasn't revealed anything I forgot, either.

EDIT: Hell, you got a Best of the Bifforum on your first day.

I didn't realise Ziggy came after me. I mean temporally, not as in she was chasing me.

I think that'd be

Pieman.
That's assuming we take 'active' to mean 'has posted within the last twoish days'. If we go by longer periods of time it'd be Mystery Fish, I think.

I have watched the rise and fall of empires. I have observed the silence and the darkness. I have stood, everlasting, while the world turns.

Well, I've been here a while, anyway.
