I'm thinking of designing a version of Shakespeare's Hamlet, basing as many characters off the forumites as I can. Anyone have any requests/suggestions?
Here are the characters, as listed in my literature book:
GHOST of Hamlet, the former King of Denmark and Hamlet's father
CLAUDIUS, King of Denmark, the former King's brother
GERTRUDE, Queen of Denmark, Hamlet's mother, widow of the former King, and now Claudius's wife
HAMLET, Prince of Denmark, nephew of the present King
POLONIUS, adviser to the King
LAERTES, his son
OPHELIA, his daughter
REYNALDO, his servant
HORATIO, Hamlet's friend
Members of the Danish court

I've already decided I'm going to be Hamlet, because dammit, I'm writing it, I get to be the protagonist. (Ironically, I'm of the opinion that Hamlet was legitimately insane, and am going to re-work a scene to cast Claudius as the "good guy" for my English class.)
If you don't particularly care who you are, you don't have to say anything. I cannot promise that I'll follow your suggestions completely, but I'll try not to disappoint too many people.
I'll give more information later, as people ask questions. Or, y'know, when I feel like it. I will also present a sample excerpt shortly.
Why am I doing this? I have no idea.
Edit: Okay, here are the ideas I have for the characters so far. Multiple names indicate multiple options, depending on what you guys want and/or what fits best in the end. This list will change as suggestions are made. Because my class skipped so many sections while going through the book, I will leave many blank that I don't know much about. Also, feel free to offer up suggestions for bit parts.
Ghost: MP, Pieman, Manson, Mystery Fish
Claudius: Dom, Orangey
Gertrude: June, Scarf
Hamlet: Meister
Polonius: Poltaap, Silfedac, MP, Pieman, Mystery Fish
Laertes: Drakey
Ophelia: Aatos, Scarf, Ziggles
Horatio: Orangey, Pel
Fortinbras: Torg

Oh man that is awesome. Everyone dies in the end except Horatio, which is just hilarious. Torg will make a bitchin' Fortinbras. I'd love to be one of the two gravediggers. I'm not sure how I'd be as an Ophelia but I can moon pretty well over anybody if I'm silly enough about it. And is there any shortage of silly in Ziggletown? As many bit roles as you see fit to give me to still be fair is fine with me. Also, if anyone has not read Hamlet or it's been a while, I recommend this little vid. It's accurate and although it's long I like it. |

I'd really rather not be the mom, but all the female characters are pretty one-dimensional if I remember the play well. It's been a few years. I'd love to be the ghost, though. That would be awesome, I'd be all like "Avenge me!" and you'll be like "how the hell do you know who killed you if you were asleep at the time?" and all be all like "... Well... He's sleeping with your mother, isn't that enough reason in it's self to kill him?" and you'll be all like "Not really, if she's OK with it." And I'll be all like " damn... AVENGE ME!"

Actually, Hamlet was pretty upset with his mother's marriage to Claudius. As someone who doesn't like Hamlet, I believe he was actually crazy and the whole ghost thing was just a product of his imagination fueled by his hatred towards his uncle--or worse, something he made up so he could have an excuse to kill his uncle.

In my Biology exam there was a box saying "Insert picture of smiling man" because the person printing them messed up, and forgot to put the picture in.
So I did it instead, monocle, tophat and all.
No extra marks, though.
