I don't know what to make of it.
Undecided
I like the Artemis Fowl books, but, then again, I haven't read the Hitchhiker's books yet (I keep meaning to, but my local library doesn't have them and I don't have the monies to buy them), so I don't know if Colfer could pull off the same style Adams used.

Yeah that's the thing. The big draw for me was his writing style.

On the other hand why not? If I don't like it I can choose to ignore it.

That is indeed true, and something many people seem to overlook, on almost all aspects of life.

I'll read it, and depending how good (or bad) it is, I'll just think of it as a tribute novel, or book six in the trilogy of five.

The best person to write another novel in the hitchhikers series would be Terry Pratchett, I think. Colfer is just a bit too juvinile. I liked the first Artemis foul, but after #2 they went pretty down hill and fanfiction-y. They're all right, but nowhere near Douglas Adams. They have completely different styles!

Maybe it will be like with Star Trek, how they now have a bajillion books all written by different people. In fifty years or so, there will be a huge ton more...

They have completely different styles!
This also applies to Terry Pratchett, no matter how great they both are.

Yes, but Terry Pratchett is a step up rather then a step down. Also, they are both excellent at witty humor.

Yes. It's sort of a moral dilmma for me, because Douglas Adams was there first, and I have been a fan of his for such a long time whereas I've only read two books of Pratchett, but Terry Pratchett is actually better than Douglas Adams writing-wise.

Yeah.

The problem between the two authors isn't which is better, but who has the closest style to Douglas Adams.

Wow that does seem pretty bizarre.  I wouldn't have imagined it was even that easy to just carry on someone's series like that.  And so soon after his death too.  o.o

I dunno, I mean. I guess over in britland their more accustomed to that sort of thing. What with Doctor Who being multiple writers...

I want Terry Pratchett to do H2G2 now.  Sad

Also, has anyone considered Neil Gaiman yet?

What are some books that Gaiman wrote?

Didn't Terry Pratchett have something to do with that book?
