I don't (I slurp at shooters) but a couple of the kids at my school do. There was one who had a reserved  copy, and got it right at midnight, then played until four in the morning.

My brother got a copy, but as I gamer I don't hold a lot of respect for most of the people that play Halo games. Not only is the game itself frankly insipid, and the multiplayer mode redundant, but most of the poeple who play it are the kind of people that anti-videogamers think of when talking about how video games 'ruin the moral fiber' of America/the world.

In fact, the only really worth-while games I've seen for the 360 were Oblivion(which wasn't as good as Morrowind) and Eternal Sonata, which r0x0r5 my b0x0r5.

I played a match on it with a room mate when he got it today.

Seemed exactly the same as Halo 2.  Admittidly this was reinforced by the fact we were playing a map I'd played before ON Halo 2, but even so.

What? Halo 3 was like Halo 2?! Considering Halo 2 was a carbon-copy of Halo, I can't believe Halo 3 would be similar at all...

I've never played a Halo game...
I think I'm the only gamer I know that hasn't.

I got it at midnight for the sake of tradition, but only played it for about a half hour. Due to a collossal senior IB work load,  I have had to abstain from it this week (among other things, including the forum!). But I finally got a chance to play the first few levels. It seems wonderful! It sticks to the same tried and true Halo formula, but the gameplay still remains fresh and invigorating with much improved level design, graphics, AI, physics, balancing, and just about everything else.

Halo 2's multiplayer was competitive and diverse, and truly was the multiplayer game of the Xbox. Halo 3 makes excellent additions to the multiplayer game, and I'm sure it will be the same standard for the Xbox 360 that Halo 2 was for the Xbox.

But don't ask me, just look at the reviews...

So... What you appear to be saying is that it's exactly the same, but better.

From what I can see so far, I agree with that. Except fpr the 'better' part.

I play Halo Custom Edition, which is good enough for me (seriously, how couldn't it, I mean, I've been playing on a map of Hyrule Field fom Ocarina of time), haven't played Halo 3, but everyone I talk to says its sucked major apples.

This dude in my English class did a 15-minute long presentation on Halo (would've been longer if he hadn't been stopped by the teacher) and it sounds awesome. So I've (well, Mum did, but... >_>) ordered Halo: Combat Evolved for I'm too lazy to think of a good word to put here. Pee-See.

Well...yeah. The core elements that made the games exemplary in the first place remain, while the game overall has been greatly improved - and that just stands to evidence. The environments and level designs are fresh and original, and even the enemy set is different than in the last two games. Everything teems with improvements that the original Xbox couldn't handle. Although distinctly Halo, it is an entirely fresh an original experience.

Did you even play the game?

One thing that has always been very important to me in the Halo games has been the storyline.  Frankly, I have been very disappointed in the plotlines of this generations heavy-hitters. After Morrowind, I was very excited for Oblivion, but was disappointed to find that the story had been watered down into run-of-the-mill pulp fantasy. Gears of War and Bioshock, on the other hand, had wonderfully deep and nuanced settings, but the halfhearted plotlines never really immersed the player into the worlds. The Halo series, however, has managed to weave an incredibly original and deep plotline that has a genuine affect on the gameplay.

And there is just so much more that you can do with the multiplayer! The finesse of the gameplay has certainly been kicked up a notch, and the new map-editor mode alone provides endless possibilities.

If only I had time to play it! I barely have time to even post on this forum anymore.

No Green, I'm heaping scorn on a game I have yet to play. I genuinely enjoy the taste of my foot, as well as crow pie.

As to your comment about the story, well, if you're looking for deep and nuanced in an FPS, I think you may be a bit confused. As you've said, Halo proves to be the exception rather than the rule.

I suppose it might be a possibility, albeit a slight one, that your desire for story-line and realesque characters could be slaked by playing an RPG once in a while. You know, the games whose primary elements are story and character development?

Oh wait; I forgot... many "gamers" consider people who play RPGs to be [insult insinuating sexual orientation]s, merely because RPGs contain only a small measure of mindless destruction, and frequently require more strategy and fore-thought than is possible for a trained monkey.

Ha, yeah, you've probably got it beat. It isn't particularly long. [edit: that isn't sarcastic!]

Plenty of FPS's have a wonderful story...and plenty are just bullets and explosions. Halo happens to be one of the former.

And you're also right, RPG's often do put a lot of weight on the story, and have very deep plotlines. That's why I was a bit disappointed in Oblivion. I thought it lost a lot of what made Morrowind so engrossing in an attempt to be more mainstream (I have something of a small essay about it on one of these old threads  Roll Eyes).

I particularly like BioWare's RPG's, and can't wait for Mass Effect!

But can I ask where you get the idea that the Halo audience are all greasy-haired basement trolls?

Now where's my mountain dew and hot pocket...

Dude, kill the caps lock. Everybody here is obviously a fan of RPGs. Nobody was dissing them in any way. Orangey was just saying that your stereotypical "basement troll" gamer thinks that people who play RPGs aren't manly enough to play what they consider "real video games", despite the fact that they have no room to talk about peoples' sexual orientation in relation to games (I mean come on, what kind of perv do you have to be to enjoy "teabagging" a frikkin' CORPSE).

I just finished playing the first six levels or so with my brother and I must say, it is fricken' awesome (he's got the Halo 3 Xbox 360. Not the legendary pack or anything, just a really schweet looking 360 with a schweet 20GB hard-drive, Halo 3 headset and stylised controller). Energy Sword FTW.
