Chapter: Comics
My favorite paper mache projects as a kid were always the ones involving balloons. We would layer strips of glue-soaked newspaper over the balloons and hang them up to dry. The next day was the magical moment when we got to pop the balloons leaving behind the empty newspaper shell. I think the balloon popping was my favorite part. The craft project that made use of that shell was just to fill time.
Also, I was recently interviewed on Tall Tale Radio. Check it out!

I used to love doing that. I liked to make alien planets!
Seams like a hint at what I was going into 🙂
I wish I was there! I would be making potato angels!
It wasn’t so much the potato filling, but the scalding butter really turned off those on a low fat diet.
Things got *REALLY* messy when they broke open the butter and gravy piñatas…
@sco3tt It was the butter that makes it that much better!
@reynard61 and gravy too!
Oh, I can imagine the horror on everyone’s faces as mashed potatoes splatter out of pinata.
It looks like the pinata has one hell of a…
*puts on sunglasses*
Smashing time
YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH
Excuse the overused joke/pop cultural reference 🙂
Biff seems transfixed by the flow of liquid potatoes; insert Hallelujah music here.
By the way, Chris, congrats on the interview, it was great listening to you guys!
I’m mostly concerned that the mashed potatoes appear to be actually dripping… DRIPPING mashed potatoes??? what the heck?? they should be thick and creamy with butter and salt and pepper and (go figure) cream and delicious! maybe it was lack of spoons than ran people off… i think i’d just use the stick i slayed the mashed potato donkey with, seems like a fitting end
Haha. This reminds me of when my dad would make mashed potatoes. He made it very thick. You could drop some of it, pick it all up with a single grab, and leave no potato on the floor or your fingers.
Wow………. I can imagine the horrible look on those childrens faces, thinking it was the pinatas blood.
It amuses me.
Am I the Only person who has a dirty mind when they saw this?
i was so right it was paper week 🙂
Were the potatoes mashed BEFORE you put them in the pinata? and I agree with Kasain. only Fermented Potatoes drip, in which case Biff shouldn’t be eating them.
My dad put Lindt’s Lindor Truffles in a piñata once, for my 9th birthday. That was a terrible idea.
@ Jerus: No. No, you were not.
I love mashed potatoes!!!
Also, I love the balloons in paper mache projects as well. Unfortunately, my school has gone all psycho freaky on us and said that some people are allergic to latex and we cannot have balloons. Am I the only one who thinks we’ve gone just a bit overboard with the whole safety thing?
@Moogle
No, you are not. I personally thinks we are going a little tad too far into a state of nannyhood. Schools are perhaps the worst offender, while sue-happy parents usually are not making the matter any better.
“Eeeeek that bright devoutly religious boy-scout brought a Swiss pocket-knife to school! Left it in his car no less! Suspend him!” <.<
(Semi-)True story
In reference to the comic earlier in the week, I imagine this type of activity would also be prohibited in an Art Museum.
Mr. Hallbeck, keep up the good work.
Hmm, twice-mashed potatoes and gravy. Wait, no gravy? Potatoes require gravy due to Taste Bud Law section 6.4. The party-goers didn’t want the taste bud police to catch them at the scene of the crime.
The only thing that would’ve made this comic better was if the mashed potatoes were dyed red.
@Libramen: CSI: Miami. LOVE that show.
Mmm.. Potatoes. That is the only way I can tell I’m part Irish. ..Well, that and the red tinge to my hair.
My favorite papier mache activity was making maracas. We taped a light bulb to a popsicle stick, mached the whole deal, and waited for it to dry. The next day, we’d get to smash the bulb, and boogie down Charo style.
