Chapter: Comics
One day I was sitting at my desk in my Chicago suburb day job and my boss walked in.
Boss: “Chris, I just got off the phone with my client and he is emailing all the files for the project to you. Let’s take a look at them.”
Me: “Ok let’s see… no… I don’t have anything here yet.”
Boss: “But how could that be? He sent them while I was on the phone with him.”
Me: “Well it’s not instantaneous. Depending on how large the files were it will probably take at least a few minutes.”
Boss: “Oh… well they are coming from Wisconsin.”

My grandfather tried e mailing his thousand + photo collection to my father. The computer didn’t unfreeze for a day.
WOOO! WISCONSIN!
I’m done now.
Biff should’ve put a safety case around that file attachment first….lest it slice anyone’s head open upon landing.
I know the feeling. Sent a massive Flash assignment (well, the miscellaneous bits and bobs were big. The .fla and .swfs were tiny) to my teacher. In theory, should have shown up in about 10ish minutes. In practice, took an hour just to send.
With a CD, you don’t need the slingshot – Just ninja it!
At work, massive files are a fact of life – they had to set up autoarchiving systems specifically to deal with e-mail inbox log jams.
Oh, and Wisconsin..? That’s a moment from that cartoon dealing with dysfunctinal office workers…
Email is one of the least efficient file transfer methods over the internet. Any one of the many direct connection types would be desirable, but alas, mention anything more complicated than the barest of basics and you get that worried look on their faces…
I have no experience with this, as I am a stay-at-home mom. On the other hand, if I want to communicate with one of the kids, either across the house or down the street, I yell. 😉
I’ma give a second “WOOO! WISCONSIN!” 😀
I’ve got a nice webfolder through the university here. I can just send people links to get files there. Unfortunately, it has a 400Mb/hour cap, and I just finished a crucial project that’s about 450Mb. BLEARGH!
Hah! We normally use our FTP servers for large files like that (or other shared network resources), but I’ll admit, I’ve been tempted to throw a CD across the office a few times. Never thought of a slingshot!
If you send it as spam, it might get through quicker…
@Amy: nothing a CD can’t fix. Never drop your faith in good old fashioned Sneaker-net. 😀
How many jobs does he have?
@Dracos125 – How many have you counted?
I used to get impatient waiting for e-mails.

*Refresh- ooh, it’s here!*

Ziggy is a known lier. Do not listen to Ziggy :3
And here’s a third: “WOO! WISCONSIN!”
My mom once didn’t check her inbox for about a week for some reason or other, and when she finally did, there were about 8000 emails coming in. That was a fun day.
And Wisconsin up north of Chicago, so the email was going uphill too, that can’t have help.
ROFL
From the looks of that slingshot, I’d say that Biff’s large files get stuck in peoples’ heads.
Man, that’s dangerous.
I thought he was in the bathroom, tossing some paper to someone else XD
SOMEBODY’S going to end up resembling a piggy bank…
Epic. Pure win.
