#877 – Crumble

One of the most valuable lessons I learned in college was to break up the cracker first, then tear open the little plastic bag and dump it into the soup.

  1. Shortly before anger management class…

That soup never stood a chance…….it was so young!

  3. Grent says:

My sis uses that strategy. I myself prefer to eat soups with chunks of stuff (meat, potatoes, veggies, etc.) in them, so I use the crackers more as a scoop. Needless to say, crushing the cracker first would make my way much harder.

  4. Mophtran says:

See, I’ve not learned this lesson. Mostly because the only kind of soup you have crackers with around here is clam chowder. I hate clam chowder.

And with French Onion Soup, that’s just silly, to break up the bread.

  5. ZeoViolet says:

I adopted the opposite trick growing up–I like to have whole crackers and dip them into soup. I adapted this trick to Chili–I don’t like Chili with beans (I don’t like the taste nor texture of beans but I like chili itself), so I’d take just a small amount of Chili, a lot of crackers, and use the chili as a dip of sorts. Allowed me to avoid the beans with ease and I still managed to get reasonably full, and I avoided hurting anyone’s feelings.

The rest of my family does the cracker-crumble thing.

I don’t like crackers with soup. I mean, I might. I never tried, though. However I love dipping bread in the soup! I know American bread is not very good. But ours is just great.

  7. baughbe says:

Brunswick Stew, I like to crumble in so many crackers I make cement!

  8. Julie says:

Is this a teenaged Biff? He looks littler.

  9. sco3tt says:

That technique works with ramen too.

  10. MaskedMan says:

The little two-cracker packets? I can crush them and open the packet all in the same move – very impressive to the shallow-minded! 😛

  11. Amanda says:

The two packets they give is never enough.

  12. The Scarf says:

This one didn’t make any sense until I read the bloggie thing.

I usually put my crackers in the soup and then break them in there. It’s fun that way! 😀

  13. Solace says:

The Return of Little Biff! Or perhaps A return 😉 My son has apparently invented what he calls a “ramen burrito”. This is perpetrated inside the ramen package, by dumping the seasoning and some water in, then microwaving the whole thing. He says it’s great, but, well, ew.

  14. Kitsune Dzelda says:

That picture makes me wonder how big their soup is.

  15. PTTG says:

I didn’t often get soup with my crackers. Just a few dozen packets of salty flour powder was enough for me…

  16. College?! I was taught that in elementary school. The teachers told us not to do that, for some odd reason.

  17. Marr965 says:

Ah, so THAT’s how the cracker crumbles. (Disclaimer: Yes, that was an extremely bad play on the phrase “So that’s how the cookie crumbles.”)

  18. Ziggy Stardust says:

I never liked doing that. Maybe it’s just anal of me, but I take the crackers out of the package one by one, dip them in the soup, and then eat them.

  19. Kimmeh says:

Yeaaah.. I didn’t get that before I met the friends of my friends.
My mother never let us or the daycare children do that. xD

  20. reynard61 says:

I used to crumble crackers into my chili. And then I discovered cheese…

  21. Linzleh says:

Biff’s week of things that crack, crackle and cracker…

  22. Space Butler says:

Biff, my man, you too know the secret to delicious soup.

  23. Chris says:

    @Space Butler – YES.

I was actually kind of surprised at the number of people that are confused about putting crackers in soup.

    whatdidyouthinktheyalwaysgaveyouthosecrackersforanyway?

  24. SpriteMeister says:

    Because crackers are yummy.

Of course, it’s still fun to break them after you put them in the soup.
    With a hammer.
…The breaking, not the putting. That would be difficult.
And disgusting. I do not want to experience pudding with crackers.

    …Okay, I’ll stop now.

  25. GuyD says:

    I agree with SeraphicStar.

By the way, are soups in a n american restaurant also so salty? In Europe they often do that to make the guests more thirsty which should lead to more ordered beverages!

  26. Hershey says:

At my school, the only way to make the soup edible is through crackers. So they give us like fourteen of those 2-cracker packets when we have soup xD
I usually just float the crackers right in my soup, and scoop them up with the spoon before they can get soggy, or just nom them plain.

  27. Trae says:

I’m actually quite happy to just eat plain saltines. Or soda crackers, or whatever the heck you want to call them. I could snack through a whole box in a day. Possibly a second box.

  28. hayabusa says:

is it just me, or is Biff getting younger?
