#1875 – Droopy

I frequently make and totally miss the optimum temperature window. It’s too hot to drink when it’s fresh. Better let it cool a few. Then an hour later I remember I made tea.

Have you heard of coffee joulies? They are big metal coffee-bean shaped things filled with some sort of…something. When you put them in our hot coffee, they cool your coffee to optimal drinking temp quickly, but then release the heat back out slowly, lengthening your optimal drinking temp! (Totally sounded like an ad, but it’s not!) They had a kickstarter a long time ago, wanting like 10k for startup, but they very quickly got over 300k in pledges! People sure do like their coffee! I have yet to buy any, because I’m broke, and it’s 50 bucks for a set. But I would so love some! I don’t like coffee, but I loves my cocoa!

I meant *your* hot coffee, not ours. I don’t know you well enough to be sharing drinks.

  3. I’m a fool when it comes to warm drinks such as tea or hot chocolate. I can’t wait to drink them, and then I burn myself… Well, OK, I have actually only burned myself on too hot drinks twice; once was 13 years ago (chocolate) , and the other time was a week ago (also chocolate!), but will I ever learn?

My first microwave had a temperature probe. I used it all the time to heat beverages and I could dial in the exact optimum temperature. Still trying to figure out why subsequent microwaves did not have this feature.

Oh wow, sometimes I forget about hot drinks too, especially if I’m trying to drink them while watching a really engaging TV show.

What throws me off is that I have relatives that will drink coffee pretty much fresh from the pot, and how they do it, I have no idea. To top it off, as a Native American, I see them do this when there are multi-day Pow-wows where some of out families camp out there, and the fresh drinking is done with campfire coffee. Our elders can be pretty darn hardcore when you least expect it.

That’s why I use milk with coffee or tea. Not to change the taste, but to cool it down enough to be drinkable.
