#1196 – Deprivation

Whenever I fly somewhere it ruins any airplane scenes I see in movies or TV shows for the next few months. There’s one major difference between reality and fiction, it’s really freaking loud! It’s like being at a rock show where the band is jamming non stop static. After a few months the trauma starts to fade and I can enjoy those scenes again without thinking “How can they possibly be having that conversation without yelling?”

    Biff…. bein a cool dude. Yeeeeeahhhh…. *sunglasses*

  3. Psychlycan says:

Lucky me, the reason I never fly is because my ears don’t pop. They just feel like they will for the next few days.

  4. Sven says:

Ah, that’s my favourite part of Criminal Minds: the fact that the team always travels in a learjet that apparently makes no sound whatsoever. I mean, really, there’s not even a token bit of noise in the background, it’s *completely* silent.

  5. PsychoDuck says:

Wait, if Biff’s back here… WHO’S FLYING THE PLANE? AAAAAAAAUGH!

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  6. Somnule says:

When you travel in a supersonic jet, obviously you fly faster than the engine’s sounds, so it’s a smooth and silent ride.

  7. southwest airlines have silent planes i could sleep in a plane without noticing a thing

  8. undead.exe says:

    Where’re Biff’s cockroach-antennae eyebrows? o_______O

  9. Gwid says:

Where’s Biff? Biff has long eyebrows and a long mouth. But if it is Biff, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen him sucking anything. I think.

I have that problem every time I see a sci-fi movie in space. I can only see someone saying (in a non-dirt way), “Hey! Look at me! I’m speaking in space! I vibrate my OWN molecules!”

I’ve never flown in anything but a commercial airliner. So I’m not sure what the heck you’re going on about.

  12. Chris says:

Ah hahaha, I can’t believe I forgot his eyebrows again. This is the second time I’ve done it. Something about covering up his eyes that makes me forget. 🙂

  13. Marr965 says:

Psychlacan: I’ve had that problem. The most recent time was the first time I went to Florida, and I had a hideous cold. I also have small sinuses, so mI was nearly crying by the time we got there. In fact, I was crying a bit…

  14. Michael says:

I’ve never noticed all that much noise on airplanes before. Well, not counting a few of the really small 2 person planes and things like that. They sound about how you describe, but any sort of commercial airliner that I’ve been on, the noise has been little more than a slight hum at worse, and unnoticeable at best. Biff also seems to have a stress canceling neck pillow. Those things are great.

  15. MrMutt says:

heh. I’ve always thought commercial airlines were loud as well. I can almost not hear the stewardess or even the person next to me.

  16. ZeoViolet says:

Until I read the caption I thought Biff was SMOKING. XD

  17. -2! says:

I don’t remember the airplane I was on being all that loud. You could talk at a regular volume and here each other just fine, I guess it depends on the type of plane.

  18. August says:

I don’t fly enough to really remember how lousd a plane is. What I love is watching pre 2002 movies and looking at all the stuff you can’t do anymore. Like in ‘Silence of the Lambs’, when Lecter pulls out a bottle of wine, and good gahd, a fork! A fork on a plane! A bottle made of glass? Madness!

  19. calliopejane says:

Psychlycan: Earplanes. They’re a special kind of earplug for flying. Sold at drugstores (with other ear stuff) and at most airport newsstands (for a lot more money there of course). A godsend! I used to be like you, would take days for the ears to get back to normal, I hated feeling like I was underwater when I was supposed to be enjoying wherever I’d gone to. No more! Yay, earplanes!

  20. Roborat says:

Hah! wimp, try flying halfway across Canada in the cargo hold of a C-130 Hercules. You want to talk about loud?

  21. Cari says:

Where’s his small child kicking the back of your seat canceling backrest?

@ undead.exe, Gwid and Chris: If he has no eyebrows, why do I see them? Am I hallucinating? I hope so.

  22. Chris says:

@Cari – Oh yeah, I added them right before my first comment above. 🙂

  23. Barry G says:

You think THAT’S bad. Try talking while skydiving…

  24. Baughbe says:

Been in a single prop: rather loud. Been in commercial 747 on normal cruise speed: Not bad. Been in a 747 at top speed to make up for being over 9 hours late: VERY loud. Glider: very nice.

  25. Guy Dupons says:

Book business or first class, than you sit in the front part of the plane and behind the engines. It’s much quiter there! Too expensive? Try to get a seat before the wing section!

  26. R For Redonk says:

I need a set of all of those.

  27. Radical Edward says:

The vomit cancelling lollipops are a take on Queasy Pops, which help pregnant women with morning sickness or cancer patients dealing with chemotherapy…I don’t know if it’ll work on motion sickness, I’m guessing not really.

  28. Penthoplayer says:

I never had the noise problem before. I just spent my time reading or playing my GameBoy.

  29. Roborat: C-130, rollin down the STRIP!. yeah loud. you just immediatly give up on conversations before you even try to start one because you cant even hear your own voice. you just feel the vibrations in your throat.

  30. DaemonThanatos says:

…vomit-canceling lollipops, huh? great idea. I could use one right n- *UUUUUURP* ugh…i don’t feel so great…
