Chapter: Comics
I remember when I was a kid how facial recognition software was a crazy thing reserved for sci-fi movies. I was really excited when I got my first taste of it on my own computer. I was simultaneously amazed at how good and bad it was. It worked great at finding more pictures of people I had already identified but it also constantly found faces in rocks and trees. My favorite moment though was when I scanned a photo of myself at 2 years old and it identified the face as belonging to my then 2 year old son.

Camera week?
And oh no! Biff’s neighborhood is being invaded by robots!
I love the LDTV effect in this one.
I, for one, welcome our new cyber-optic overlords…
I’d suggest Evil Genius week, but you’ve probably never read that book xD
I’ve never tossed around with facial recognition programs – never until about a year ago did I know they existed, either.
Fairly sure it is a ‘technology’ week, not a camera week.
Also, have you seen that new video camera that will automatically take stills when it detects that the people it is watching are smiling? We’re one step closer to a master computer that will kill us when it detects that we -aren’t- smiling 😉
Yeah, I know someone who has a camera that will wait to take the picture until everyone in the frame is smiling. And being that commercial stuff is usually several years behind the stuff the government uses, the cameras on top of the traffic light poles can probably read your mind.
Umm… Improper Use of Technology Week?
I like the juxtaposition of this strip: the camera is advanced while we still have the same old bus system. Where’s our super robot bus?
Super Robot Bus!!!
The camera sees the cartoon face as being a person over the bald albino man with the large eyebrows. I love it!
@Baughbe;
Sadly, you’ve got it backwards. Government hardware, excepting some *very* small projects, is usually two or three generations behind the best commercial stuff. The Gov’t has to buy via budget process, after all! OTOH, by the time the Gov’t *does* get it, it’s robust and the kinks are gone.
No, the people to be afraid of, technology-wise, are the commercial interests. Smile and say “Hi!’ to the insurance and credit monitors!
of course, we have to wonder…
…is he using that tactic because he’s returned to his previous “employment” (*theft*)?
or just because he looks shady?
or maybe cos he might get experimented on to see if hes an alien?
…or maybe my imagination is too vivid?
~Yukimura~
Also…
SUPER ROBOT BUS!
@ YukiYukimura
He is obviously detected as a threat without the shirt. And for good reason.
The theme is technology and children things i think.
@Jason
The camera seams to be the buses security system to me.
@ Micah
We have no evidence that people in the Biff verse look more like Biff or his shirt.
Sorry for double post but it just occurred to me, maybe the camera is working, and detected no treat because someone who is a threat would not be wearing that shirt
@-2
Not a threat? If I saw someone wearing that shirt, I’d think they came back from an anime convention. Those places are dangerous!
