#1023 – Corded

Being able to talk to someone from a moving vehicle is now so common I don’t really think about it anymore. I do remember a time when it would be surprising to reveal to the person I was talking to that I was currently driving. They would say
“Well I better let you go so you can go run those errands you talked about.”
“Oh, I already did all of them while I was talking to you. I thought you would have caught on when I said ‘I’ll have a number 3 with root beer.'”

  1. Micah says:

“Hi, you’re on the air with Biff.” *Reads caption.* Oh.

  2. AwakeAgain says:

I hope his eyebrows don’t get tangled in all that cable! That’s the real reason they banned talking on phones whilst driving.

  3. MaskMan says:

“BIff’s Drive-Time Traffic Report now on the air…”

Honey, I have to go now. I just caused a 27 car pile-up. Again.

Some people can multitask reasonably well. Most cannot (although they think they can). That’s why I don’t ride with certain friends. I don’t want to become one of the statistics of people killed by driver talking on phone while eating a cheeseburger, clipping their nails and reading the newspaper.

For the busy podcaster on the go… 😀

  6. Chris says:

@baughbe – Really? Your friends still read the newspaper?

  7. Mute says:

@baughbe count me as one of those multitaskers. I’ve actually shaven and brushed my teeth on the highway at 70 mph. It wasn’t easy. Cruise control helps. Also the friends riding with me didn’t really appreciate it.

I am afraid to even let my mother drive me anywhere. she smokes, eats, talks on the cell and potentially gets her profreeding done for work. its not only scary when were on a busy 2 way street, but i hate the smell of smoke on a rainy day in the dirty car.

  9. Shorty says:

Is that a carphone from the 1970s?

  10. Guy says:

Hey wait a second, driving with headphones on, especially ones so large, is TOTALLY ILLEGAL.

  11. BradSk88 says:

I bought an expensive bluetooth setup specifically for this purpose, but every time someone in my family calls me they say “oh I’ll call you back, I don’t want to distract you while you’re driving”.

  12. baughbe says:

@ Chris, Of course we still read newspapers. How else will we have the material to make giant papier-mache boulders to throw at door to door salesmen and “Have you found Jesus?” freaks. (Yes I found him. He was hiding behind the couch the whole time. So I threw him and the couch out.)

  13. Vrominelli says:

I don’t know about other states but driving wile on the phone is now as big of a crime as reckless driving while speeding in Washington state, yet I STILL see people on their phones while they drive.

  14. Paul says:

just anouther law a cop can cite that you broke if you start to piss him off when he kindly stoped you to remind you that your tail light was out

  15. MaskMan says:

@baughbe; Your Jesus was behind the couch? Mine was hiding in the pantry. I make him do my laundry.

i’m suprised to be the first one to say this, but i work as a shop assistant, and it is incredibly annoying for us to deal with someone who won’t get off the phone to talk to us about what they want, especially if they get annoyed that the order is wrong.
i mean, it’s so rude, treating us like we aren’t people!

    …Jesus ate my nachos while I wasn’t looking…D:

  18. Thornbrier says:

I find it crazy that we can’t drive with headphones on because we need to be able to hear. But deaf people can drive. Not saying deaf people should not be allowed to drive, its just quite a double standard.

@Wrincewind: I never minded people talking on their phone when I rang them up. As long as they didn’t hold up the line with it.
