#393 – Jiggle

I was always a fan of gelatin. It’s fun how it teeters on the edge of being a solid and a liquid. You can slice it and scoop it but you can also slurp it off a spoon. When I was a kid my favorite thing was to put a big piece in my mouth and then squish it out through my teeth. I don’t do that anymore… as far as you know. The only part I hated was waiting for it to set up. There were always finger prints on the top from me poking at it.

    I love you Chris.

    Will you marry me?

  2. Soullesszc says:

Haha I’ve always loved to do that with jelatin, glad to know there is a fellow jello squisher out there

  3. Dazeroflight says:

I’ve always wanted a wall made of gelatin. It would be so much to dive in from the right and slide right through to the other side.

It just can’t be too thick, or I’d probably get stuck and suffocate.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

  4. PsychoDuck says:

    Jell-O… God’s gift to man.

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  5. nikie says:

i would enjoy gelatin more if it wasn’t made of pig hooves. i like vegan gelatin though 😉

  6. PsychoDuck says:

I thought it was cow bones?

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  7. Alcadeius says:

Hooves and Bones are made of the same material- so i dont doubt they switch depending on the costs of them… Capitalisim at its best

  8. Rachel says:

I was a jello finger-printer myself. Oh, wait, I still am. But jello would be so much better if people didn’t insist on putting funny things in it. Strawberries? Blueberries? Pineapple? Carrots? Salmon?
No really, I’ve seen it…green jello with little bits of smoked salmon. Put me off jello for weeks.

  9. Bubble says:

Hmmm, seems theraputic. Must try it sometimes.

  10. Ryan says:

I agree with the puritan jello movement, but I must say, little bits of orange and tangerine inside orange jello is divine.

  11. Nick Steele says:

The fun thing about gelatine is: It’s a gel.
It’s soild usually, but when you apply enough force to overcome that tenuous solidity, it can flow like a liquid. That’s why you can slurp it 🙂

  12. Imaginary says:

Pfft, you don’t need an empty stomach. XD It fills in all the cracks of a full one just as well. XP

Yes, I love jello. It’s a primary food source when I’m sick.

  13. dragonbrad says:

I love gellitan, I also like it when it has chocolate chips in it, the orange is the best with chocolate

  14. Gobbledegook says:

I love Jello, but not when there’s stuff in it.
The chunks ruin the texture I like so much.

Dragonbrad: No offense, but eewww… that definitely doesn’t sound like my cup of tea-flavored Jello…

  15. Frank says:

Oddly enough, I’ve thought about doing exactly what Biff is doing now, except with blue geletin…

  16. PlutoBum says:

haha i thought he was swimming in orange juice again

  17. Fred says:

@ Soullesszc: Count me in too! haha I did it every time I ate gelatin when I was a kid (and I still do when I can avoid others noticing hahaha XD)

  18. Plankster says:

Gelatin is now made of artificial stuff, no more cows or pigs (apparently it’s cheaper to synthesize it).

After you squish the Jell-o through your teeth, you can drink it! That’s what I always did…*cough*…do

  19. screamingfurby says:

Biff is lucky, that looks like fun
This year, for my friend’s birthday, we’re going to get a small, plastic wading pool (you know, one of the ones that kids play in during the summer) and fill it with gelatin. There’s no way we can set it up in something that big, so we’re gonna hafta make room in all of our refrigerators XD

Btw, Chris, I got my Biff shirt last night, and I love it :3

  20. the Scarf says:

I love jello…but I so rarely get to eat it. So sad. All because my mom is getting everyone to eat healthier. Since when is jello not healthy?

Bits of stuff in it IS weird.

I’ve always wanted to make a wall of jello…perhaps by making a wall of it from half-set cubes? then when they are done, they will form together!
    Mmm…jello pool.

  21. Chris says:

    @screamingfurby – I’m glad you like it 🙂 Send us a pic!

  22. Seraphine says:

I hate gelatin. It’s made from dead animals.
Even medicines are put into gelatin capsules,
which is rude to consumers. I would never
sleep in gelatin, even wearing a snorkle set.

  23. kenshin620 says:

oh, phew! When I first saw this I thought biff had dived into orange juice again.

  24. Opalin says:

Heh. I love slurping jello through a straw. I can only abide mandrin oranges in jello, everything else is weird. I slurp the oranges through the straw as well, and it makes this awsome suuuuuukkkk-poow! noise when it finally gets through.

  25. the_orin-ginal says:

    What happens if he farts?

  26. Reg says:

    @the_orin-ginal
    Umm… jello bubbles I guess?
Sleeping in gelatin is a lot more comfortable than all of Biff’s previous sleep attemps. Way to go Biff!

  27. Leapfrog says:

I have to say, that is the best idea EVER! That would be so awesome!

I’ve been reading this for a while, but never posted anything. I ordered the book, to give to my little brother for Christmas, and decided to post after receiving the book in the mail today. This is my favorite Webcomic, I always look forward to reading it!

  28. Twist Kick says:

    A new watcher, yay!

Seraphine, all the way with you. I like jello but only if it’s made with fake gelatin. I can’t get over how blind people can be, eating boiled cow legs and hooves without a thought. *shudders* Even though they’re harder to swallow I refuse to take medicine in gelatine capsules, so I take em in the solid form.

Sleeping in vegan jello would be.. definetly interesting. *laughs* Cherry flavor for me!

  29. Robot Panda says:

@Plankster 😀 Swishing Jello is the most fun one can have when eating it.

Besides making it into fun animal shapes and then dissecting them. [cough]

Bless the person who created this amusing treat.
Now I really want some. D:

  30. Chuck says:

I like my gelatin with bits of Biff.

What? Someone once said he was made out of tofu.

  31. Melindotty says:

Blech- I hate jello. It grosses me out how the reason it is gelatin is because of bone marrow.

    grody.

  32. Shrek says:

My girlfriend used to work in a gelatine lab. Gelita Australia. And i know it is made from cow hide and bone. The stench as soon as you walk out of the lab was terrible.

    http://www.gelita.com/

  33. Shiloh says:

I will only eat jello if it has fruit in it simply ’cause I was sick so much as a kid that’s all I lived on, now I can’t stand it.

Also, when me and my brother were little kids, my mom made baking sheets of jello and then we would use cookie cutters to cut out our names or animals and stuff like that. It was fun. ^_^ Yay for Jigglers.

  34. Silfedac says:

Jello is awesome by itself, but it’s even better with ginger ale mixed in. It gets all fizzy and delicious.

  35. Ela says:

I always loved poking the Jell-O! It was pretty fun.. and that looks pretty awesome, sitting in gelatin…. I wonder if it keeps Biff warm at night.

  36. PlutoBum says:

what if he swam in jello shots?

  37. The Captain says:

Wow … I never knew that gelatin was made out of bones and hooves of animals. Honestly though, it’s not gonna change anything for me. It may be made out of animals, or synthetic materials, I don’t care, because gelatin is just so freakin’ delicious and fun :D!

Oh yeah, and two gelatin tips:

    1) When making gelatin, it says to use cold water OR fruit juice. When making raspberry gelatin, use raspberry ginger-ale instead of cold water or fruit juice, it makes it twice as sweet and the gelatin becomes tingly because of the carbonation! (That might make it difficult to fall asleep in, though)

    2) I, too, am a gelatin purist and can’t abide by people who put fruit or worse in gelatin. So, here’s a prank to pull on all those gelatin contaminators out there you know. Suggest that they put kiwi slices in the next gelatin they make. Why? Well, there’s an enzyme in fresh kiwi that prevents the gelatin from setting, so it’ll never set, and their attempt to sully their gelatin will have failed! And, then you can remove the fruit and drink the stuff so it doesn’t go to waste (mmmmmm). I also hear it works with pineapples, but not as well (and I hate pineapples).

  38. The Captain says:

Oh, yeah, and Biff rocks my socks off!

  39. Childe says:

How has no one mentioned the crowning glory of all Jello confections, the Jello shooter?

Jello is delicious in its pure form or with the correct mix of fruit (it needs to correspond to the type of Jello, though — oranges in blue Jello is just weird). I’m not really a fan of marshmallows in Jello, which was (for some inexplicable reason) a popular thing in my hometown. But it’s when you add alcohol to the mix that Jello truly shines. They’re a ubiquitous part of any birthday celebration among my friends and I.

  40. colin says:

    A fizzy jello fan too!
    orange soda gelatin…mmmm…
never did try strawberry crush (king of all 2-liter sodas) jello though

  41. bizzybody says:

    What is kosher gelatine?

    from the Vegetarian Resource Group:
Kosher gelatin can be made with fish bones, and/or beef skins. Contrary to assumptions, it is also considered kosher to use it with dairy products. Kosher law is very complex and the bones and hides used in gelatin production are considered pareve. The general meaning of pareve refers to foods that are neither milk nor meat, and many people assume this means that the product is vegetarian. However, OU pareve certified ingredients can have animal products, such as fish, eggs, and gelatin, in them.
“Kosher Gelatin Marshmallows: Glatt Kosher and ‘OU-Pareve’,” an article that appeared in Kashrus Magazine, explains the distinctions. A quote from the article is as follows:
“…since the gelatin product is from hides or bones – not real flesh – and has undergone such significant changes, it is no longer considered ‘fleishig’ (meat) but ‘pareve’, and can be eaten with dairy products.”

  42. Buni says:

When I was in Japan they had these interesting little mini-gelatins that go in lunch boxes…they’re in these little plastic cups, and you usually just slurp it right out of the cup! So good…mine were usually peach-flavored, though I don’t think there were added peach bits in it or anything.

  43. harukofan says:

I’ve almost spent ten bucks on jello several times, just to put it in my tub & see if it becomes sentient

  44. Lisa says:

After a week long stay in the hospital with a straight diet of jello I swore of jello. shudder

  45. Tuesday says:

That would be the best night’s rest of my life.

  46. Jo says:

i love how, even though the word gelatin is spelled in the comic, people hear are able to spell it wrong

  47. ninjakyrosaki says:

As a child I always wanted to fill a swimming pool with jello. Now that I have a swimming pool, I realize I need more jello packages

  48. Terashell says:

mmm, Jell-O… I had a friend who would get one of those big cubes of it they put out on the chinese buffet we used to frequent, get it on a spoon, and then suck it right off the spoon straight into his stomach.

I could never figure out the technique, and it probably explains why I can’t chug beer either.

Stuff in Jello is bad. You have to have pure jello or it’s not jello damnit, it’s … gelatin with crap inside.

… Suddenly, I am tempted by the prospect of jalapeno jello…

  49. etherscythe says:

I wonder if this was unintentional on Biff’s part – maybe he got trashed and his friends dropped him in there, like how they encased that stapler in Jello on that TV show The Office (more info and video clips at jellostapler dot com).

As crazy as he is, the people he would have as friends would totally do something that ambitious.

ALTERNATIVELY: “Biff finds that Jello is the perfect packing material for shipping himself long-distance.”

  50. Deirdre says:

@Rachel: SALMON? In a word, blech. 😛 I have made strawberry Jell-O with Fanta Red Cream Soda though, and boy was that good!!!!! 🙂

  51. Annon says:

The thing that always got me about jello is that it started off as a failed experimental glue formula. I always wonder who the glue-eater was that discovered its edibility.

I don’t see why it’s a problem to use hooves and bones in food. It means less animal goes to waste and therefore fewer animals need killed. Like how Native Americans used every part of the buffalo they killed…

  52. random man says:

i suck it throw a saw

  53. AdmiralChaos says:

i remember making jello bb’s in the freezer. extremely potent when combined with straws of the correct size ^_^

  54. Dan says:

i always buy jello now because its only .75- 1 dollar. I just dont like the jello skin that forms on the bottom of the bowl if you leave it for to long. i tried mixing jello with fruit juice as instructed on the package and it was really good.

  55. jykcor says:

on homestarrunner.com, one of the strong bad emails had a pool full of jello

  56. Zach Light says:

jello….aw man, its good when you touch it with your finger but…all over your body…..makes you feel like those vegetables in the gelatine

  57. BrainpanSonata says:

I have always wanted a jello-filled swimming pool. It would be the best summer block party ever.

  58. Tech says:

I don’t like how jell-o always has a rubbery texture on the bottom.
