#701 – Mono

Some people are hard to shop for. You may wind up just getting them a gift that you like, hoping they feel the same. I think the best gifts are ones that have a lot of thought put into them and say a little about the gift giver as well as the receiver. It’s not always successful but it’s usually more fun than choosing items off of a wish list.

My favorite gift given, was giving a spicerack and a piece of paper with food/spice combinations, to help a culinary challenged friend beef up his cooking skills.

  2. Speakerblast says:

Ninja Biff can use that as a fake eyepatch to infiltrate pirate headquarters!

  3. speearr says:

The Cyclops should have put more thought into his choice of gift.

  4. Nero says:

Can’t say this has ever happened to me. Then again, my gift choices all boil down to music cards on iTunes or clothing from Hot Topic. So yeah…

  5. JakJak says:

This doesn’t really relate to the comic itself but why doesn’t Biff have any ears?

  6. MadDavid says:

Probably because having no ears makes him more aerodynamic.

  7. Chris says:

I hate buying gifts, it’s one of the most dreading activities in existence for me. I might enjoy Christmas if I didn’t have to worry about buying gifts for people.

  8. Cyclopses aren’t known for their brains. Leela, from Futurama, is an exception.

  9. Space Butler says:

The good news is that the sunglass will help to shield his third eye. The bad news is he still doesn’t have ears.

  10. Space Butler says:

perhaps he’s like a seal in that he has no external ears, but still has the important parts on the inside.

  11. My family is very tradtional and technologically declined so when I first tried out the whole “wishlist” thing, it was mostly shunned or not taken seriously. I did get one thing from the list though and it was the wrong color and size. I’m now at the age where people have no idea what I like, just buy me clothes Ment for people twice to three-times my age. Cards are OK, but I end up not usuing them till much later and I end up with what looks like little to no gifts. *Hurm*, maybe I’ll learn the Jedi mind trick… Maybe then…LOL!

  12. Chris says:

@JakJak – Oh nuts! I’ve forgotten to draw ears this whole time!

  13. The Dukenator says:

@WillElMagnifico – This is why I ask for cash only gifts.

  14. carrie says:

    Happy Birthday Amanda 🙂

  15. Mophtran says:

I’m crap at gifts unless serious hints are dropped. I usually just go with a gift card to restaurants or gamestop or something.

  16. Amy says:

We’ve got a friend who’s impossible to shop for. We know what she likes – music and anime – but she gets it for herself at a rate we can’t possibly keep up with. So we usually do gag gifts. They’re absolutely hilarious for us, but really really annoying for her. 😀

  17. DTanza says:

    HAPPY BIRTHICANS BIFF!

  18. no name says:

Is it really Biff’s birthday today?????

  19. Jon says:

    It’s opening things week!

  20. Chris says:

Nope, his birthday is in November and the website’s birthday is in April.

  21. skywerwolf says:

so what is this weeks theme? DND!

  22. -2! says:

At least the sunglasses still have there tag and should be able to be returned 🙂

  23. Reg says:

Ugg, don’t you hate it when adults try to actually buy you video games? I’ve recieved movie-based games, those pitiful Wii minigame ones and Monoploy. Soon they caught on that a gift card to GameStop is the best idea.
Perhaps this week’s theme is just random, but I glad to be back to not knowing what Biff’ll do the next day… not that i knew any better when there was a theme.

I usually ask for money on my birthday, and my parents remember that. I nearly always get jewelry or useless gadgets from everyone else (people have learned to stop buying clothes for me – I’m of a very awkward size so it’s impossible to buy clothes without me being there to try it all on) which usually just gather dust in their packaging in my room.

  25. TigerGulp says:

I’ve been asking for the same gifts every year since i was 13. Books, books, books, and a tree house (that last one still hasn’t be fulfilled)

I don’t really care what book i get cause at some point I do read it. Except self-help books. I’ve already admitted to my emotional instability! *points at the dog* STOP JUDGING ME!

  26. Nobrain says:

Best gift ever – money. Simple as that.

  27. Nobrain says:

Oh right, if you’re argument is putting thought into the gift, you did. The hour(s) spent making that money =D

  28. Linzleh says:

So if Biff’s birthday is in November….gosh its not even his half-birthday yet! Cool, he knows a Cyclops. Not often you see Cyclops supplies in stores. I’m thinking space invites got delivered early and the invitees traveled at warp speed. True friends. Shopping must be an intergalactic challenge as well.

Eight years ago I got my wife a video game that I thought she’d like.. boy was she mad!!! I thought humm it’s an rpg/puzzle game she’ll like it, I was right about her liking it and she did play it, but she didn’t like was the fact that it was an anniversary gift. what can I say, I thought it was a good idea.

  30. IDK says:

I suck at gift-giving. I usually just give them a gift card to, say, Game Stop or maybe Chili’s.
[OT]Am I the only sentient being who doesn’t like iTunes in the least?[/OT]

  31. Andrea says:

    I’m guessing the theme is religion/philosophy for lack of a better word… Christianity(sevendeadlysins), Greek “mythology”(cyclops), Buddhism/Zen/etc(samurai)

  32. Jarrett says:

That’s why it’s always nice to give the birthday girl/boy mono.

But seriously. The best gifts I’ve gotten are ones I never would’ve though of for myself. That has generally applied to other recipients as well.

  33. YukiSnowflake says:

@Chris – You mean you NEVER realised he has NO EARS?
…oh well, he’s easier to draw without ears…
    …for me, i cant draw ears…

  34. DaemonThanatos says:

Hey…I got one of those once…it peeved me to no end. I couldn’t figure out how to wear the darned thing…so I proceeded to bludgeon it with a hammer, then a metal bat…and finally threw it in front of a steamroller. A warning: don’t give me useless crap on my birthday…True, it’s the thought that counts…but think of where I might shove it if I hate it. >:3

  35. DaemonThanatos says:

    …somewhere painful, not unpleasant.

  36. DaemonThanatos says:

…though i will admit, the novelty of the item was amusing at first…
