#1776 – Streak

When I was a kid I sent off a couple notes attached to helium balloons. They did not include my address or anything they were just “Hey! Check out this cool balloon!” kinda thing. I always imagined one day I would find one sent by another kid but I haven’t yet.

  1. I don’t know if this is true or not, but I read somewhere that there was this guy who sent a message in a bottle, in which he had included his address in case anyone would find it… And sure someone did. The guy who sent the bottle message was fined for littering because he had thrown the bottle in the sea! Well, it’s a really weird story, no matter if it’s true or not…

  2. I tied a kazoo to a balloon with a note saying “FREE TOY!”

If I ever had to send a message in a bottle I’d write, “Haha! Made you look!”
I think I could die alone stranded on an island happy knowing that I totally pranked some random person somewhere.

We did the notecard/balloon thing back when I was in high school. I think most of them ended up in a stand of trees about ten miles away.

Haha, it’s been AGES since I last commented here, but I have to share this.
A friend is an artist/performer and one of his works is called “useless performances”, an ongoing work where he does things like booking a room in an abandoned hotel, fixing an interview with someone who speaks a language he can’t understand, you get the picture.
Well, his first useless performance, many years ago, consisted in a message in a bottle launched in the Mediterranean sea and addressed to me (I’m living on the Swiss Alps). He made sure to film the performance and it went like this: 1) guy inserts the letter with my address into a bottle, launches the bottle to the sea; 2) bottle hits a rock and breaks in shards, the letter gets soaked and vanishes miserably through the waves. End of the performance.
The second half was totally unexpected and made this a DOUBLY USELESS performance .-D
