#1517 – Pocketed

My mom was pretty good at getting stuff out of my pockets before washing them. Usually the things that snuck through were small pieces of paper. I would reach into my pocket later and find a small white stone… no it’s not a stone it’s too light. Oh wait there’s a seam on it… and then I would slowly peel apart a list of important things that I forgot to bring to school a week ago.

in my family it would always be tissues, almost everyone carries a tissue in their pocket, and no matter how hard you search, double checking every pocket, one would always get through. Unfortunately they don’t bunch up like normal paper though, tissues explode, every piece of clothing comes out covered in hundreds of miniature pieces of tissue.

  2. I can remember two items that ended up in the laundry and that weren’t supposed to get washed. The first thing was a post-it note. There were small, pink pieces of something in the pocket of a pair of pants (or was it a jacket?), and then we figured out that the pink stuff must have been a post-it note that was left in the pocket.

The second thing was a watch, and it actually survived getting washed! But there were tiny drops of water on the inside of the glass surface, and this never went away…

Some of the methods for drying out cell phones and laptops are usually scaled-up versions of what to do if your watch isn’t waterproof. You would have popped the back of the watch open, not off, wrap it loosely in a layer of tissue, and stick it in a jar of uncooked rice for a couple of days.

Mine is always my chapstick. Washing it is fine, but drying it will sadly melt it all away. I don’t know how many of those damn little sticks I’ve wasted that were practically new this way.

But, your pockets stayed kissable, right?
