#1514 – Freedom

A few years ago I saw something large fly into my backyard and land in a tree. I got my binoculars out of the house and was shocked to find that it was a duck! I knew about wood ducks, I had seen them in parks and ponds, I had read that they nested in trees but I had never actually seen it before. Let alone right in my backyard. There’s something very weird that happens when you see a familiar thing in an unfamiliar location. Like finding a penguin in your bathtub.

Did biff toss the squid into a bog?

  3. It’s one of these cuttlefish that can morph into practically anything. One of the trees in the picture *is* the squid!

actually, octopus are far better at camouflage than cuttlefish or squid. cuttlefish and squid are only capable of changing color, and they are limited to just a few colors, while octopuses (octopi?) can change to almost any color, and can actually change the texture of their skin.
have you seen the video of a diver swimming towards some coral, then it turns back into an octopus and swims away?
anyway, a squid is not a cuttlefish. they are closely related, but still 2 entirely different animals.

    Flying squid actually exist.

I once had a pelican land on my front lawn. In central Texas.
