#1464 – Grains

Biff and Maximumble had a baby and a 3rd comic strip was born! Check out my new comic at minimumble.com

I wonder how many conspiracy theories revolve around food expiration/sell by dates. I know there are plenty of times I’ve noticed a sell by date of a year or two ago on the package I’m throwing away of something I just finished eating.

“Hey… that’s right, they changed their logo a long time ago. I wondered why it tasted a little nostalgic.”

I remember once my mother found out that all the cartons of milk – enough to feed 5 children and two adults for two weeks – had an expiration date of a year ago, because of some misprint. She threw them all out and forced us to drink the milk that doesn’t need refrigerating that she tended to keep in the cupboards. It tasted awful, and since then I’ve avoided anything but refrigerated milk. I don’t know how this turned into a comment about milk.

  2. I eat a lot of food/snacks way past the expiration date (but not dairy products). Yesterday I ate some potato chips that expired the 20 December 2010, and I’m still around, leaving comments on The Book Of Biff… 😛

      1. It’s almost as if I knew that today’s Biff would be about expired food!

And the potato chips were still OK to eat (the bag was un-opened)! Aaah, chips from 2010… Good year, indeed! That’s life when you buy lots of snacks, but rarely eat it… 🙂

So that’s what nostalgia tastes like…

Over all, I still suggest not eating anything where the can has expanded and is all bulgy.

    1. That sounds dangerous! How does that happen…?! :O

Just ’cause the canned stuff is pasturized or otherwise made ‘starage safe’ down’t mean it’s 100% bacteria free. Given enough time, even one bacillus can grow to a whopping colony o’ death.
        I’ve seen the results.

        NOT pretty. <.<

Hmmm….Yeah… didn’t Mountain Dew change to MtnDEW a while ago? what’s the expiration date on this can? oh…. 5 years ago….

  5. kingklash says:

He should try those spooky Gov’t sandwiches I heard about that stay edible for about 20 years or so in their packages.

I’m gonna have troubles eating sandwiches now…

  7. Quinn says:

Mom found some cornbread mix and made some, but when I attempted to eat it, there was this unusual bite and bitter aftertaste. Upon investigation, we found the mix was 2 years beyond the expiration date.

My dad is a doctor, so he has lots of random medicine samples in his medicine cabinet. Medicines do have expiration dates, so one day we were looking at them and found a tube of antibiotic that expired in 1990.

But on the other hand, how would antibiotic go bad?

    1. Maskman says:

Trust me, ya don’t wanna know. <.<

I find it much worse to see bread baked one day in the future. And they actually sell it occasionally in nearby store.
