#1454 – Dial

I sometimes think about what it would be like if my consciousness could travel back in time into my childhood body. I think it would be exciting for awhile but maybe the novelty would wear off quickly. I only have these 8 cassette tapes of music to listen to? The only instant communication with friends is the telephone or to physically go over to their house? Most of my favorite movies dont even exist yet! There is only 1 flavor of Doritos?!

Today’s Maximumble gets roughed up.

And only four TV networks. And to research something, you had to go all the way to the library and hunt through a (gasp) CARD CATALOG …

      Four..? Three.

Four. There was also the DuMont Network. (Their best known show was “The Honeymooners”.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuMont_Television_Network

          “…ceased broadcasting in 1956.”

Three. Unless you’re a lot older than me. Which, I suppose is possible.
          😛

OK, right – Biff was in ’53. So yeah, you’re right.

  2. Chuck says:

    The only flavor that matters.

  3. Iforwhat says:

Ah, rotary phones, the bane of biff.

Unless I’m mistakened, and autocorrect ‘corrected’ ahhh to shhh

  4. The things I would really dislike the most about sending my consciousness back to my childhood body would be to not have access to the internet anymore, not having my huge collection of CD:s (I’m *very* addicted to music), and not having a dog, because my dog wasn’t born back then. But other than that, my life would be pretty much the same as now, I think. Most of the channels I watch on TV now for example existed back then (the nineties) as well.

It’d be a mixed blessing for me. My first decade of life was the 70s.

    1. Wizard says:

Mixed? You mean there was an upside to the 70’s?

How old are you that there was only one flavor of Dorito? At least, in the mid-70s, when I was a lad, we had Nacho Cheese, Taco (apparently the original flavor according to Wiki, how odd), Sour Cream, and the rather unusual unflavored variety (I forget what they called them.

    1. Chris says:

Born in 1973. Doritos were only “Dorito” flavored around here until the mid 80’s when Cool Ranch came out. At least at the grocery store my Mom shopped at.

  7. Gwid says:

    I spy a Doctor Who reference…

When I was born (the ’90s), there was only Cheese Supreme as a flavour of Nachos. When I was about 5, they introduced Nacho Cheese, and since then they’ve opened up to sour cream/et cetera… The joys of living in Australia.

  8. Plasma Mongoose says:

    I haven’t used a phone with a rotary dial since the 80s.

  9. Royce says:

I still have a rotory phone, and use it quite a bit. Normaly to answer the phone when the walk around phone has walked off.
It’s from the 60s, twice as old as I am. I got it in a jumble sale.
