I had a co-worker that was skilled at exploding things in the microwave in the break room. She would be less embarrassed if I wouldn’t have constantly walked up behind her right as she opened the door to discover the aftermath. I think the messiest one was a hard boiled egg. But my favorite was when she managed to explode her ceramic mug boiling hot water for tea.

Microwaving mugs of water can be surprisingly dangerous. Seriously.
There are worse things than blowing things up inside a microwave. Radar Lab in Electronics Tech ‘A’ School was rather hard on the local sea birds… I wonder if Biff is in the market for a large, high-power, variable azimuth microwave cooking beam?
At a previous workplace, we had a commercial high-powered microwave in the break room. This unit featured ten pre-progammed buttons, not the versatile controls one expects in a consumer model. One of these buttons was labelled ‘popcorn’ — however the intent was for popping the full-size microwave popcorn bags. People kept putting the ‘snack size’ popcorn bags in it, pressing ‘popcorn’ and then proceeding to walk away and leave the microwave completely unattended. Needless to say this resulted in incinerated popcorn, some wonderful (NOT!) odors wafting through the whole department, and the eventual demise of the oven.
I once heated up water in a mug, but stupidity threw cold water on it. The mug was hot as hell and the cold water caused it to shatter into pieces.

Boiling water in a microwave is pretty stupid. What is she gonna do next? Put her pet in there to dry it after it’s bath?
Reminds me of that show Braniac, where they would put various things in the microwave and see what happened. The balloon filled with pure oxygen and a sheet of foil (for the spark) was one of the best explosions, but for coolness factor, you cant beat the balls of plasma coming off of a flaming toothpick. You can still find clips on YouTube, I’m sure.

This turned into a massively long post, then I realized “Why should I help people prevent massive injury to themselves when I can laugh at them for it.” Yeah, I’m turning into a jerk. I blame society.
It wasn’t a microwave oven, but years ago during a Church meeting this young mother was out of clean diapers for her baby. So she took the dirty cloth diaper and rinsed it off in the bathroom, and then put it in church’s kitchen oven, and set the dial to bake to dry it.
The odor pervading the chapel was, well, pretty pungent to say the least!
If you have a pure enough sample of water, you can superheat it in a microwave past the boiling point. As soon as the slightest impurity is added it all turns to steam and explodes. You can see vids of it if you do a web search. Fun stuff. The best explosions in microwaves come from ostrich eggs, though. Their shell is thick enough that they don’t break from the heat until they explodes. Also vids available. Check them out.
My favorite microwave incident was the time one of my co-workers tried to reheat a fast-food burger. He just tossed the whole sack into the microwave, where the foil wrapper started arcing and set fire to the sack. Not quite as good as the guy who accidentally launched a forklift off a loading dock, but still pretty amusing.
If you cut a grape in half leaving the skin intact right at where the stem was and nuke it (on high I think), it will give off sparks. Someone showed me this, but you can probably find it online.
When I was a kid, a babysitter set fire to our microwave (one of the early ones with-gasp-dials) by cooking whole potatoes without poking holes in them first.
