#1101 – Recumbent

Recliners can take quite a beating in everyday normal use. They mechanisms eventually get stiff or sticky or really loose. They have to get really bad for most people to finally replace them. I’ll frequently be at someone else’s house and sit in their recliner and have to get a set of instructions on how to operate it. “You have to lean to the left and the pull back on the handle while jerking yourself forward and then quickly lean back… here, just get up and let me show you.”

    Well, they knew who to give the bad one to.

    On the bright side, he gains yet another prodigious entry to the Biff-shaped Dent-in-the-Wall art exhibition.

    that reminds me of the marmaduke commercial

    moment of randomness:round tip bullets plow through targets though hollow tip bullets plow wide and jagged paths through the target

    I had a manual recliner a few years ago that was so old (my grandfather had bought it for my grandmother in the late ’60s or early ’70s) that it literally fell apart — the whole right side just fell off and it collapsed under me.

    Heh! You’ve described my favorite disreputable recliner. 🙂 Minus the power boost. 😆

    Sci-fi stuff in the everyday world week.

    I’ve been searching years for a reclining executive office chair to replace the one I got from the owner of a company I worked at. It finally fell apart and apparently no one makes them any more. Most comfortable and practical chair I’ve ever been in. Fully reclining, swivel, five-wheeled, high-backed, three comfy back cushions, leg rest… Heaven.

    Mad David: Your guess appears unlikely to me, in as much as that could describe a substancial percentage of all the comics in this series.

  9. Draco Dei says:

    (sorry for the double-post)
    Coyoty: Have you seen a good engineer/handy-man about repairing it (not necessarily with manufacturer parts… if it is THAT good, some custom machining might not be overkill to return it to service).

    My La-Z-Boy is probably older than I am, but it still functions pretty smoothly. It doesn’t even look too bad. (Reupholstered about twenty-five years ago, it was probably twenty or twenty-five years old then.) Maybe they really did make ’em better back then…

    Inverse Faceplant.
    A fail worthy of the gods…

  12. ZeoViolet says:

    OW! poor Biff.

    At least it didn’t bend inwards instead, and smash his head between the foot cushion and the seat top, between his feet…..

  13. ZeoViolet says:

    Chris: How’d I miss that one? I’ve read the whole thing through at least once…..but thanks. SOOO funny.

  14. Mad David says:

    @Chris: How do you remember every single comic?

  15. Chris says:

    @Mad David – I re-read the archives at least once a week.

  16. YukiYukimura says:

    @grapy – I see you fixed that problem. Thankyou, although it still feels a bit… mine…

  17. YukiYukimura says:

    @Chris – … (*stares at screen*)
    uhh… is that even possible?
    It took me more than a week to read up to 1000…
    …maybe I have too little free time…

    Most power recliners that I’ve used have the opposite problem, they move too slowly. The ones my family have take around a minute to fully recline.
