#1046 – Chip

I hated mowing the lawn when I was a kid. We had an enormous gas powered mower that felt like I was pushing around a tank. I frequently fantasized about new inventions that would surely come out in the near future to make it easier. My favorite was a grid of little posts that would pop up out of the ground and trim the grass with lasers. It would only take a few seconds and it would just automatically happen once a day.

only biff would live on the moon and then make a “yard” to mow that no one can see.

  2. corjoth says:

hrmmm id go with a garden but then id have to worry bout moon-rodents

  3. MaskMan says:

Of course there’s someone there to see it… Biff!
If I lived on te moon, I’d want some greenery, too.

Growing up, I had the opposite problem – Huge yard, and only a push-type reel mower to cut it. If I didn’t mow the yard twice a week, it became a monsterous task to get it cut.
I, also, would’ve killed for the ‘laser-trim’ option.

I wish I had a laser lawn mower system! I hate it when rocks break through my space dome, air is really expensive to ship it turns out…

I liked mowing the lawn as a kid. The lawnmower was the biggest power tool that I was allowed to operate. Of course, my enjoyment was probably greater simply because I only had to do it two or three times in a given summer … usually it was a job shared between my dad and my brother.

Wait a second, we still don’t have laser grass cutters? I just thought I was behind the curve.
Also, Biff’s lawn is amazing. It must be all the sun he gets.

Is this week about to become like a spin-off of The Muppet Show?

    BIIIIIIIIFF IIIIIIIIIIIN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

  8. Luc says:

@ i.too: Is definitely looks like space week. Let’s see if it actually lasts a week. Maybe we get to see the inside of that wicked space ship.

*See how I just used the word ‘wicked’? Rad!

I have a lawnmower that PUSHES ITSELF FORWARD. All you have to do is steer it. BEHOLD: THE FUTURE IS NOW!

  10. Ledish says:

We have a small and weak handheld trimmer and quite a lot to trim… not very fast.

I think that laser idea would be a reeeeally bad one. The random loss of house-pets alone.
Now, if it’s the neighbor’s dog wandering over to your lawn to do his business, then it’s a different story.

  12. Kree says:

It’s situations like these that remind me why I hate the idea of glass as a material used anywhere near anything facing the vacuum of space. Spaceships should not have glass windows!

  13. caffiend says:

Ironically enough… if you were living on the moon you’d not actually want to mow the lawn. Long grass = increased O2 regeneration.

  14. EGH says:

Anyone remembers an episodes of the animaniacs where buttons and mindy are exactly in those kind of bubble houses on the moon?

  15. Steriema says:

Guys, seriously, you should come to Europe. We have it already a few decades, the laserstuff! Lawnlasers. Wonderful stuff. And about the pets, we have spacelasers that can dig holes just the size of a pigeon, a cat or even a llama! (Yes, some of us have strange pets.)
And you know, Biff should’ve used double glass.

  16. baughbe says:

    Gonna need more Bondo.

    Bondo Week

  17. Doctor Why says:

Lasers? Why not just use a robot lawnmower. Been around for some time:

  18. MaskedMan says:

@ Kree: Sapphire is the stuff you want. Interestingly enough, sapphire is tranparent aluminum (Al2O3). Scotty really put one over on the polycarbonate dealer!

  19. Wizard says:

Hey, it’s the new career I’ve been waiting for: installing laser lawn grids. Now I just have to invent laser lawn grids, so I’ll have something to install…

  20. calliopejane says:

I’m afraid laser grass cutters are just a lawsuit waiting to happen. You know, when you cut off the unsuspecting mailman’s foot. Better stick with the robot.

  21. Raya says:

I havn’t been able to mow the lawn this summer. It’s been much to rainy.

I have one of those fun riding mowers. I tend to act like i’m a race-car driver and not mowing the lawn. Makes the work go by alot faster, and alot less accurate.

  22. Kyle says:

    Stone Week?

@ Luc: You are Duke of Radwick for the day.

  24. Albert says:

I would be more likely to grow trees…

  25. kenotooth says:

You know what’s really bad for lawn mowers? Lacrosse balls. They do tons of damage. Also, you’d think that Biff would use the ol’ self-winding lawnmower that has a rope attached to a barrel in the center of the lawn. It mows automatically!

  26. Echo says:

Laser lawn-mowing would also have the convenient side effect of keeping people from walking on the grass. >D

  27. Radical Edward says:

When I lived in Monroe, WA, I remember my father would mow the 5 acre piece of land we bought. It nearly killed him because he jumped off a ride-on mower that was going out of control and he broke his leg.

I never dealt with mowing the lawn. I used to live in apartments for a majority of my life.

  28. YukiSnowflake says:

OBVIOUSLY he has it there for the OXYGEN.
    DUH!

    unrelated note:
I can now read Biff on the go! Yay! The wonders of Win2DS*…
Then again, I can’t go to far from my house… D:|

*Win2DS – Control your windows remotely.

  29. Scott says:

I used to have the same daydream while cutting the grass. I would even try and work out how to build such a system..

  30. Mister Disco says:

it’s crazy how often I think about the laser grid cutting system, but my biggest issue is proximity and motion sensors to prevent you from hurting the various animals and children who decide they’d rather be on our lawn than their own.

  31. Marscaleb says:

Biff, what are the property values like in that neighborhood? I’d like to buy a summer home.
