Chapter: Comics
There’s a small grocery store that I sometimes go to that I never buy produce at. You can’t go through the piles of stuff and pick out the exact things you want. Everything has been repackaged into inconveniently sized shrink-wrapped trays. You want an apple? Nope. You can only have an apple 4-pack. Potato? They only come in multiples of 3, and each package has at least one really obviously bad one.

Ugh, tell me about it. Every single store I go to only sells grapes in bunches. They’re a crafty bunch.
The Duck Has Spoken.
What a bunch of jerks.
That’s one thing that’s nice about King Soopers – it’s a store where you can still do that. At least the one where I live is.
By “do that” I mean “pick out exactly what you want”.
Posting to avoid any confusion.
See, I work in a grocery store, a decent sized chain in the Northeast, and we still do that. Our produce dept is one of our best parts, because we advertise our fresh produce and clerks’ knowledge of the stuff. We do sell multi-packs, of course, but we still sell individual ones.
Likewise in a sizable grocery chain in the Southeast.
Some produce items are delivered in prepacks, but any of them can be opened and repackaged for your convenience.
I’m still looking for a store that will let me buy Cheerios that way.
I want to be able to pick and choose the number of hotdogs and hotdog buns I buy…
@taber_man: Demoulas or Market Basket? Not sure how far northwest those extend, but their produce depts are usually pretty good.
Oh, Baughbe baby!
while i was in a store with my grandfather i saw grapples they came in a six and they were wierd
One of our stores does that with corn, and they peel a strip of the husk off before shrink-wrapping, so you can see the lovely kernels inside — which have now been rendered tough and tasteless because you shucked the thing long before it will be cooked & eaten.
Potato week?
