One of the most amazing discoveries I made as a kid was that the television remote worked through the blanket we kept in the living room. This had two applications. First, I could keep the blanket pulled up to my neck on chilly days and still enjoy television. More importantly, the television would now change channels or turn off unexpectedly, much to the annoyance of my family.

Things being unexpectedly transparent (or at least translucent) to infra-red is always fun for mirth and merriment.
I’ll assume that the bowl of super noodle bran is sold seperately. Also, I suspect that wonder product week will actually yield some truly valid invention ideas.
Reminds me of the time I grabbed my remote, snuck down to a friend’s down the street and aimed the remote through the curtains. My friend thought his TV was going on the fritz – I finally knocked on the door and when he saw me there and had a remote, I had to duck – “You sonofa…”. Good times 🙂
God I loved pullin that on my parents! XD

I do that with my 360 controller. Play the 360 under a blanket.

When I grew up, I was the TV remote. And the channel guide as well. A few weeks into the season and I knew exactly when and on what station the regually scheduled shows would be on, and what percentage of the family would watch. The only thing that the rest of the family had to watch out for was football games, because I avoided those.
And my guess it that this week is “Marketable Products I should have patented before putting them in a cartoon” week.
When TV remotes were becoming wireless, we had a remote that used high pitched tones. Not only could we use it under a blanket, we also could chase our cat out of the room by hitting the 9 button.
The Snuggie ™ has gotten waaaay out of control!
When I was growing up, I *was* the remote control! Older sibs and my folks apparantly had a meeting when I wasn’t around, and saddled me with the job of ‘channel changer.’ Good job we only had three channels at that time. 😛
I can’t exactly remember when I had gotten my first televison with a remote. I remember that my grandparents had one of those televisons that had a wired remote to it. It was about 25 feet of cable in between the television and remote. The first tv that I remember having had the turn dial on it. I had channels 4 through 13 to occupy my time. I have a few hundred channels now, and still nothing good is on.
I used to have a, well I guess I still do, Transformerâ„¢ Optimus Prime toy that had a transforming trailer with it. When ever you moved the legs a certain way to move to the “Super power” mode the trailer automatically opened up and became a super big pair of legs. Well one day while playing with this toy in my basement while my family had a small get together and watched the old TV we had the TV channle started to change. We had lost the remote long ago and we found the toy had the same frequency it was funny.
“Adding something inappropriate” week.
I’m thinking, specifically, that it shows a “new” invention in which something has been added that contributes nothing toward the purpose of the original invention.
In college, my roommate had an old TV with one of the “clicker” type remotes. It made high-pitched noises by hitting metal bars inside. We quickly learned that rattling our keys would change the volume, and a pocket full of coins would change the channel. That of course led to all sorts of pranks by our friends.
I’m so confused.
Am I the only person who thought Biff’s eyebrows + the folds in the shower curtain made him look as though he had fairy wings of some sort? Yes?
