#883 – Cretors

Currently I use my cell phone as my alarm clock. The biggest drawback is that the alarm shuts off after only 60 seconds. Sometimes that’s just not enough time for my brain to get unstuck from the dreamworld. Fortunately the phone lets me set 3 separate alarms so I now have 2 backups, one 5 minutes later and one 10 minutes later.

Keep a salt shaker next to the bed, and leave some butter out overnight, and it doubles as breakfast!

  2. Space Butler says:

I suppose that also takes care of breakfast. My alarm clock routine is a flawless process. I set my alarm for an hour or two before I need to wake up (unless i’m getting up really early), wake up tired and set the alarm for two hours ahead (the actual time I need to wake up) and go to sleep until then, gaining the satisfaction of getting “extra” sleep.

I leave my alarm clock juuust out of easy reach so I have to focus to turn it off, and the most easily pressed button is the snooze, the alarm goes on for quite a while, and if I snooze it, it comes back after 5 minutes, I usually just set it a half-hour ahead of when I need to leave bed, so by that time I’m quite annoyed at it, but get myself out no problem.
I’m not certain Biff’s alarm is reliably on-time, but yes, breakfast is no doubt present, though I think if it’s hot enough for popcorn, it’s going to be quite painful for the occupant as well.

  4. Greyryder says:

My alarm clock is on a shelf at the foot of my bed. I have to sit up to turn it off, to help me wake up. This leads to a two to three hour cycle of hitting the snooze alarm, and going back to sleep. If I have to go somewhere, then it only lasts a half an hour.

    I think I need a better strategy….

  5. Rare says:

My cat bites my nose at the same time everyday, which gets me up quickly. No need for alarms.

  6. Nilly says:

My alarm clock is nowhere near my bed. The snooze button only works if you keep your hand on it…

  7. Karl says:

I hear one beep out of my alarm clock, and I am instantly awake, no fiddling with extra time or anything. I am not sure why.
Sadly for two years back in college i lived with a multi-snoozer. So if we had to be in class at 9am, i would set my alarm at 8:30, he would set his at 7:45, and I would lie in bed, fully awake after his alarm, wishing i could get more sleep. Silly me.

  8. Enlyn says:

I do the cell phone thing, too. I set three separate alarms within five minutes of each other, which is good because, although it’s a complicated process of cellphone finding/button pushing, I seem to have gained the ability to turn it off in my sleep.

  9. baughbe says:

It takes two alarm clocks a half hour just to pull me out of sleep. I then have to get up out of bed to turn them off. Which is better than I used to be. When I was younger I could get out of bed, cross the room, turn off the clock, go back to bed, and never wake up anywhere in the process. The only time in my life that I ever got up quickly was my stint in the Air Force. Fear is a great motivator.

  10. Ziggy Stardust says:

    Oh hai, Rare!
My alarm clock’s one of them old-fashioned bell ringing ones. It’s right next to my face and it’s LOUD. If you press the face of it the alarm goes off and a light turns on so you can see the numbers, so many a time I’ve woken up late, confused and cuddling my alarm clock so it won’t go off.

    One word: kids.

  12. Kitsune Dzelda says:

    Omg! Best. Alarm Clock. Ever

  13. MaskedMan says:

Just how HOT does Biff keep his electric blanket set, anyway..? <.<

My alarm clock is 35 pounds of Border Collie – usually dancing on my chest. The snooze alarm is 100+ pounds of Shiloh Shepherd, licking my face with a tongue roughly the size of lower Manhattan. Yes, I can sleep though the pouncing BC, at times… But the snooze alarm gets me every time!

  14. Sonoftunk says:

For me, my alarm clock is a little program I wrote. I leave my computer on overnight, and in the morning it goes off, and it’s LOUD. To turn it off, I need to put in 4 randomly selected characters. …and just in case I ever feel the urge to turn off my speakers, I’ve got the buttons duct taped on there. 😀

  15. KeiFace says:

My cell phone is my alarm too, I keep it under my pillow… and it’s on vibrate. Nothing like a vibrating mass under your head to wake you up in the morning!

  16. Ironaxe says:

My cell phone will actually beep until the battery dies when the alarm goes off. After so many minutes it will go into a snooze mode for like 3 minutes then start back up again and repeat until it’s disabled. It’s been very handy for a heavy sleeper like me, hehe. (It’s a Motorola fyi)

  17. Junior Crowley says:

I saw an alarm clock somewhere that runs away when it goes off, forcing the owner to get up and go hunt it down. Looked cute.

  18. Ziriath says:

@Rare: :D:D:D That must be the best way of waking up ever:D

I use my cell phone as alarm, but usually I turn it off and want to sleep Only Five More Minutes (heh)

  19. Unigirl says:

There’s a guy in my class who lives alone, on bedsit, because his family lives a three hours’ drive away from school. One day he came to class around two o’clock PM (school usually starts at 8), and his excuse: His alarm clock didn’t go off.

I have some problems with getting up in the morning, so I usually set my alarm clock to five minutes before I’m supposed to get up. I really wish I had an alarm clock that would turn on the ceiling lamp, I’m sure that would make me get up. My constant lateness has some perks, though, I’m really good at getting ready for school fast.

  20. Hershey says:

My alarm clock used to be a massive problem.
I woke up to the same beeping every morning, so eventually I got used to it, to the point of sleeping through it.
    Late for school. Every. Morning.
Now I wake up to radio blasting xD
Then of course, I turn off the radio and go back to sleep…

  21. Radical Edward says:

I used to set all sorts of alarms in my bedroom when I was in high school. I usually got up at 5 AM.

Now that I’m heavily drugged, I get up whenever I feel I’m ready.

  22. Karen says:

I absolutely can’t STAND those back-up alarms! My other half sets about a half dozen of them … and often stumbles groggily to the shower after the first one or two, forgetting to deactivate the later ones. I’m a light sleeper to begin with, so him getting out of bed is enough of a disturbance — if I have to actually reach over, open his phone, and select the precise code of buttons that deactivates the alarms, I’m fully awake and not getting back to sleep anyways (despite the fact that I generally don’t have to be awake until an hour or two after he gets up).

  23. Vaarj says:

I use my cellphone as an alarm clock, i always leave it out of reach so i have to get up to turn it off, if i don’t i turn it off in my sleep (half-awake i guess but i have no memory of ever turning it off.”

Sometimes though i wake up a couple of minutes before the alarm goes off, which is weird.

  24. the Sandman says:

my alarm clock is an electric clock that has 2 alarms, and will never shut off unless you shut it off. i tested it one day, and just let it go. after hearing the annoying beeping for more than an hour, i finally got fed up with it, and shut it off

  25. gelugon2105 says:

And Biff can get some crunchy breakfast too.

  26. good.news says:

hey thats exactly the same thing i do! my phone has 5 alarms though, but i only set three. mine are half an hour apart, starting at 6 30.
i have a bad habit of waking up 1 minute before my 7 30 alarm goes off.

although on days that i REALLY wanna wake up on time, i set all 5 alarms, 5 minutes apart, my electric alarm clock (which i never seem to have set up) and my battery powered analogue alarm (you know the ones with the two bells that get hit really really fast?) AND my DS alarm.
if 8 alarms dont wake me, then my dad usually gets me up.

  27. Sigurdgram says:

I’ve got a program on my laptop that wakes me up. I also found out it works a lot louder if I run twenty instances of the program. any more than that, though, and it’s annoying to hit all the turn off buttons.

  28. YukiSnowflake says:

my phone lets me set 1 wake up, and 6 extras.
i use them all, like this:
    4:00am, 4:30am, 5:00am, 5:30am, 6:00am, 6:30am, 7:00am.
    I get up, usually.
It also helps when i set each one to a different yet equally-annoying ringtone.
Including preset ringtones, the steel samurai theme and the blue badger song! (*for “Ace Attorney” fans everywhere!*)

  29. BrainpanSonata says:

I have one of those iPod docking alarm clocks. You can’t help but wake up when a Nine Inch Nails song suddenly starts playing at high volume.
