#879 – Sneak

I’m frequently accused of sneaking up on someone. It’s not intentional though. I just happen to have a generally quiet way of walking around. Perhaps I should start wearing flip-flops to work. Maybe adopt an annoying song as my theme and constantly whistle it?

Maybe attach a little bell collar like a cat.

  2. Ray A. says:

I highly recommend the “Monday Night Football” theme song. There isn’t a guy alive who doesn’t think it’s cool.

  3. Miles says:

I wear heavy boots. Always. I am generally not a deliberately stealthy person. Still, I am an unintentional ninja. It is awesome when one wears Harley Davidson Motorcycle boots to work (with the straps and clanky bits and all) walks with a heavy tread and still startles someone with a question.
“Don’t sneak up on me like that!”
“I don’t see how it is humanly possible for me to be ‘sneaky’ like this.”

  4. Amy says:

Whistling is probably more socially acceptable than mumbling to oneself…which I catch myself doing all the time…

  5. Greyryder says:

*begs to differ, with Ray A.*

I seem to accidentally surprise people, too. Sometimes, it’s the same person being surprised that’s been known to accuse me of walking to heavily.

  6. SEA says:

I tend to be surprised when i almost bump into someone because i am not paying attention. XD

Also, yeah, i experienced something like that very commonly, people just can’t seem to notice me. D:

  7. AdmiralChaos says:

The only time I surprise people is when I’m playing airsoft. Wish I was a quieter person 🙁

  8. Polymorph says:

I can generally surprise anyone/thing both accidentally and intentionally when I walk up behind them. Even more hilarious is when I manage to plant a very conspicuous item on them without them noticing until hours later, and sometimes not even then. Although it hurts to sneak up on my cat when she’s sleeping at the top of my loft bed.

  9. Space Butler says:

Uh, how far did the Eiffel Tower pierce into Biff’s head?

  10. Martinel says:

@Space Butler – If it’s to scale, maybe only a half-inch or so. Nothing life-threatening, knowing Biff.

  11. soilent says:

suggestion: get a keychain and hang it from your belt. then people will accuse you of being annoying :]

  12. bob says:

Perhaps you can get somone to follow you around and narrate every thing you do.

  13. Chris says:

    @bob – I like this one 🙂

  14. starseedjenny says:

Jeremy Irons, or is that too xkcd?

  15. Solace says:

Poor Biff! Some people just don’t fight fair.

  16. Mophtran says:

Oh man I am such an unintentional ninja. Maybe we have McNinja blood in us? Either way I tend to scare people by standing around and someone walks into a room. With a few of them this is consistant. Maybe they’re just not paying attention hahah

  17. Mike says:

Wish it could Snow in Florida, but to the subject at hand. Typically when I sneak up on people it’s an accident, but I can also do it on purpose. Can be pretty fun sometimes.

And I’ll agree with Ray A. I would love to hear somebody walk up to me and have the Monday Night Football Theme get gradually louder.

  18. McGehee says:

If you want a tune to whistle, “Twisted Nerve” should do the trick. Just don’t wear the nurse’s outfit.

The eyepatch is okay if you want to.

  19. Rico says:

I’m also a “sneaky” person i’ve scared a lot of people. My house was very silent since my father worked at night, so I guess I’ve developed this “ninja” skill. 😀

  20. Kitsune Dzelda says:

    Wow…….. just…. wow.

Biffs gonna feel that one. Unless he didnt feel the brainfreeze yesterday, then hell be fine.

  21. MaskedMan says:

Theme song. Me like! Something James Bond-y, I hope…

  22. Croc says:

Get you one of those bells they put on cats.

  23. sco3tt says:

Just learn The Song That Never Ends and hum or whistle that. And you can do it for a long time, because, well you know why.

  24. weerd2normal says:

and when it freezes, biff will be screwed

  25. Lisa says:

This is the song that never ends.
It goes on and on my friends.
Someone started singing it not knowing what it was,
and they’ll continue singing it forever just because…

  26. JippenFaddoul says:

I had this problem all the time at work. I solved it by putting my keys on a caribiner (one of those rock climbing clips), and dangling it from my pocket. *jingle jingle jingle* can I help you?

  27. Biligum says:

    Huzzah, le Tour d’Eiffel!

Also, I’d suggest attaching those small bike horns to the bottoms of your shoes.

‘Course, then people might think they were being ambushed by a clown.

  28. Küchenhexe says:

I nominate the Jaws theme to whistle.

  29. reynard61 says:

Not sure if flip-flops will work. I wear anklets that make a good amount of noise (no particular reason, I just like the sound); but if I wear *just* my sandals/flip-flops, I’m as silent as a Ninja. (Just ask some of the people that I’ve startled…)

  30. mrmeval says:

I weigh 270 pounds and walk like a brontosaurus and still startle some people. They should have been eaten by a predator long ago. 😉

  31. Kara says:

I’m actually accused of this a LOT at work. I’ve even called people’s names to let them know I’m there so they don’t freak out. They still do. I think if I actually tried to sneak up on someone, I’d probably give them a heart attack >_<

  32. no name says:

Haven’t commented in a while, still been reading though. Still great comics that bring joy to my every day… if only it could be such with Saturday and Sunday.

It says “ans,” do you mean “and?”

  33. Kitsune Dzelda says:

Ever since I learned to walk on my toes, and ride my Kona bike, I seem to slip up on folk and accidentally scare them. Specially with the bike. Folk wont know Im there till i say something, then they freak out and pretend theyre having a heart attack.

  34. Lirleni says:

You could do what one of my coworkers does…
she walks around with a retractable pen, constantly clicking it, fast.

  35. Samuel says:

Oh how wonderful it is to realize that you have missed checking Biff for months and discover literally hundreds of comics to enjoy. Keep up the good work!

  36. Tigergulp says:

Its not being sneaky, its being considerate of others who are still asleep. No one wants to hear ‘clomp clomp clomp clomp sliiiiiip skid crash glass breaking’ noises

  37. Linzleh says:

Biff getting edgy? A kid carrying snow globes? That’s got to be a first…I’m guessing Biff’s wintering on Sirius. As for your stealthiness, jingle bells in your pocket, tis almost the season:)

  38. Random says:

YAY! I finally finished readin all the archives! I love your comic Chris. knowing Biff, he’ll just pull out the Eiffel Tower and go home.

  39. Hershey says:

I suggest that Rick Asley song that everyone knows.
” NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP, NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN~ ”

I’m actually pretty loud and obvious. I walk loud and slow, practically stomping, my voice is constantly louder than it needs to be, and carries across a room. Still, If I don’t say anything, then walk up behind one of my friends and say something, they’ll jump out of their skin.
Probably because one moment its silent, then you hear me.

  40. Corjoth says:

sup ppl^^ i find that no matter how loud i get intentionally i can sneak up on someone un-intentionally…. mind you i like quiet… its more fun to just walk around stop behind someone tapp their shoulder and duck…

  41. Svenni says:

I agree with bob, you should have someone follow you around to narrate everything you do. I say that person should be Morgan Freeman.

  42. CapnSteve says:

I actually do carry a bell in my pocket. So I can be found and tracked. It works pretty well.

  43. Matt Lee says:

Run Biff! He’s getting the needle factory snowglobe!

  44. Radical Edward says:

my mother hates when me or my father sneak up on her. More or less, my mother thinks me and my father are well suited to be ninjas. Even in flip-flops or wearing my “cranked to 11” iPod, she still gets scared out of her mind over things like that.

  45. shenhibiki says:

A friend hangs a bell around my neck EVERY FREAKING TIME I go to her house =w=

  46. Biffbiffley (no relation) says:

thinkgeek.com sells a personal theme song tshirt.. you could wear that around and have it play such selecitons as … Oh I don’t know.. the mission impossible theme song.

  47. Jelellyfish says:

I, too, am a ninja when it comes to sneaking up on people. I get my mom all the time.
True story: I was talking with my mom while we were making dinner, she’s standing in front of the stove, I’m quiet for a bit. I walk up behind her, she turns and nearly jumps out of her skin. This happened while she KNEW I was in the room, and KNEW I was around.
I wonder which one of us could out-sneak the other…

  48. hayabusa says:

@ Chris: you could do like Peter Griffin, and wish for a genie to give you your own theme music. i’m not sure how practical that would be, but hey, practicality is overrated, right?
