#815 – Stuck

I liked corn dogs as a kid. It was always a novelty to get to eat food on a stick that wasn’t a dessert. I never thought to ask why they were called corn dogs and was surprised when I learned that the batter was corn bread. “Corn bread! But I don’t like corn bread!”

. . . Oh! “Corn” dogs. Duh, lol

  2. Space Butler says:

I always thought corn dogs were unnatural…but quite tasty.

  3. Shorty says:

    @Space Butler:
    Agreed.

  4. Greyryder says:

    I love corn bread!

    Corn dogs ain’t bad, either.

  5. Tim says:

I have never had a corn dog

  6. MaskedMan says:

Ah! So that’s where the come from… Pardon me, I’m off to raid a cornfield.

    @ Tim;
    You poor sad, mistreated person…

  7. ZeoViolet says:

I like cornbread (well sorta). I like hot dogs.

I’ve always hated corndogs. I’m weird like that. The two foods just don’t belong in my mouth at the same time.

  8. Washu says:

I like “corn dogs” as you call them, although in Australia we call them pluto pups.

  9. ThatSomethingGuy says:

In New Zealand, the common variety of your corn dogs is made with a simple batter. Your hotdogs are referred to as American hot dogs.

Sometimes, we do find our hotdogs with that breadish covering. Personally, I don’t like them as much as the simply battered ones.

  10. Chris says:

@Space Butler – This seems to imply that hot dogs are “natural.”

Strange. It took me awhile to realize that the green pattern was not wall paper. I was predisposed to see it as such because I’ve seen the movie Garden State. There’s this one iconic shot where Zach Braff is standing in front of a wall his mother covered with a similar pattern. And he’s wearing a shirt made from the left over material.

But then, I can’t actually picture Biff wearing a patterned shirt.

  12. Ziggy Stardust says:

I had a corn dog last week, for the first time in a while. Harder to eat than I remembered- I think my mouth capacity has decreased.

  13. sco3tt says:

Well, not really a pattern on the shirt, but the briefs look spiffy. http://www.thebookofbiff.com/2008/10/07/606-sneetches/

    mmm corndogs

  14. soilent says:

    never had one. never will.

  15. Hatsuyuki says:

    I LOVE corndogs!

But up here in Canada, we call them Pogos (named after a popular brand in this country)
We also have something called a Donair Pogo (here in halifax) which is made with a spiced meat. It’s goooooood.

  16. santy says:

First time commenting! i wanna say i really like the comic, as i watched like 4 monthos of it as soon as i discovered it.
Never had a corndog, but once i had a waffle-covered wiener on a stick.

Question: what is biff? why are his eyebrows so long? is he an alien?

  17. Mophtran says:

    Mmm, corndogs dipped in mustard.

    Good stuff 😀

  18. Radical Edward says:

I don’t like corn dogs. Mainly because people make dirty jokes whenever I eat something like a hotdog or popsicle.

  19. The Dustin says:

That reminds me of Hotdog-on-a-stick, the classic corndog place that incidentally doesn’t serve plain hotdogs on sticks. It’s like naming a place “Bob’s Coffee House” and then not actually serving any coffee.

  20. Ahh the corn dog… nom nom nom

  21. -2! says:

    @ santy

What is Biff: Biff is a pen and ink drawing
Why are his eyebrows so long: Stylistic evolution over time (note there are other locations of this one such as this)
Is he an alien: Probably not. (okay I know thats not a very good example of why he is not an alien but we already showed how he is a pen and ink drawing)

  22. i.half4 says:

@ sco3tt: Wow. How poor of pocket and soul am I for still not owning the books? I know I could just read the archives, but then I get stuck on the comments, you see.

  23. gelugon2105 says:

To Tim: I never had a corn dog either. Things like these haven’t even reached Southeast Asia yet, and here many people are quite averse to eating deep fried carbohydrates, ever since it was heavily publicized that heart disease is the number one killer here.

  24. Hershey says:

    Oh!
I had to read the comments to find out the thing behind him was not a wallpaper xDD
    I don’t eat corn dogs D:
I don’t eat any kind of meat, actually.
I used to though, And when I did I was average on corn dogs. I only ate ones from the freezer that we microwaved, and they always ended up soggyyy.

  25. Jayne says:

@i.half4 I was very ready to say something like “snazzy wall paper!” I remember the Zach Braff picture.

  26. Marty says:

When I was a teen I had many a corn dog at the Hot Dog On a Stick in Southlake Mall in Merrillville, IN. Pure, greasy bliss! They even sell cheese on a stick (dipped in corn dog batter and cooked the same way). A friend calls it grilled cheese on a stick.

To this day I’ll usually stop in to get a snack when I drive by it on the way to visit family. Sadly, I’ve heard that store (I think it’s the only one left in the Midwest) will apparently close at the end of this year. And so it goes…

  27. Miles says:

Bleah. I have never liked corn dogs. When that was what they served at school for lunch, I went hungry. Hot dogs are fine, but for some reason, I could never stand the taste of corndogs. I couldn’t then and I still can’t. Yuck.
